"Can things ever go back to the way they were? We had something going, Danny." I could sense the frustration in his voice, accompanied by the occasional ticking of his jaw. His finger traced my face, stopping at my scar. I couldn't breathe as I wanted nothing more than to sink into his arms. But he had to pay.

Taking his hand, I let it rest on my belly. He stood still, the wheels turning in his brain until he finally understood.

"You're pregnant!"

"That's right, Jake." Standing on top toes, I whispered into his ear, "And it's not yours."
