My engagement to Kile, the heir of House Golden, was witnessed by the Duke himself. I thought my days as a helpless orphan were over.

They all stared at me, waiting for me to swallow my pride and accept a lifetime of humiliation.

"I refuse to be a lesser consort," I announced clearly, watching Kile's smug expression freeze. "But to preserve our families' dignity, I will fulfill the contract."

I looked right into Kile's shocked eyes.
