Chapter 2

Smack!

Before I could even finish my sentence, a sharp slap echoed through the room.

"Who do you think you're talking to?" Loretta yelled, glaring at me with raw venom.

"Your house? Everything in this place belongs to my daughter!"

"I said, get the fuck out of my house!"

Before Loretta's second slap could land, I grabbed her wrist in a vice grip and shoved her backward.

"You little bastard! You actually dared to lay a hand on me!"

Loretta stumbled back two steps and began screeching at the top of her lungs.

"Everyone, come look! The son-in-law is beating his mother-in-law!"

"Where is the justice in this world?"

"Look at how he treats me!"

Hearing her cries, the crowd of old men and women immediately swarmed around me, pointing their fingers.

"Manager Davis, call the police and report a massive home invasion. Actually, never mind, I'll do it myself," I said coldly to the property manager beside me.

I pulled out my phone and dialed 911 right in front of them.

"Hello, police? I have an entire crowd of people unlawfully trespassing in my private residence..."

Seeing that I was dead serious about calling the cops, the gossiping crowd instantly shut their mouths.

"Loretta, maybe we should get going first."

"Yeah, if the cops show up, this won't look good for us."

"I can't let this mess ruin my son's career..."

Someone in the back began whispering nervously.

Within seconds, the others walked up to Loretta, nudging her to leave.

"Sean, you remember what you did today!" Loretta hissed, clearly terrified of the police showing up.

"I'm telling you, this isn't over! You won't ever see a single glimpse of my Rowena again!"

With that pathetic threat, she gathered her flock of party crashers and rushed out the front door.

Never see your precious Rowena again?

Nothing would make me happier!

Watching the massive crowd stream out of my home, an overwhelming sense of relief suddenly washed over me.

Ever since I started dating Rowena, that mother-daughter duo had clung to me like bloodsucking leeches.

They spent my money, lived off my resources, and never showed a single ounce of gratitude.

I had lost count of how many messes I had cleaned up for them over the years.

Every bit of kindness I showed only made them push their boundaries further.

Looking at the trash and spilled drinks scattered across the floor, I didn't even bother cleaning up.

I could always hire a cleaning crew, remodel the place, or just sell the entire property altogether.

I turned off my phone, reset the electronic door codes, and headed upstairs.

For the first time in years, I slept like a baby.

I didn't have to worry about Rowena coming home drunk in the middle of the night.

I didn't have to deal with her freeloading friends or her greedy, obnoxious mother.
