Chapter 2
2
Swallowing the bitter bile in my throat, I turned to my head butler.
"Since he cared so much about another woman, cancel the burial."
"Take the money meant for this plot and let Yvette Sinclair use it for her nursing home!"
Dylan panicked instantly, throwing himself in front of the casket.
"Don't you dare touch him!"
"I'd like to see anyone try!"
"Mom, how could you do this? How can you look Dad in the eye?"
I laughed humorlessly, stepping closer to him.
"Did either of you ever look me in the eye?"
"I gave forty-eight years of my life to this family!"
I sacrificed my youth, my ambitions, and my peace of mind.
I asked for nothing in return, raising our son alone while nursing a sick husband.
Yet until his dying breath, George's heart belonged entirely to someone else.
What was I to him all these years?
A wave of suffocating rage pressed down hard on my chest.
If I could turn back time, I would demand to know why he treated me like trash.
I would ask him why he felt so comfortable building a life on lies.
The butler signaled the security guards, who quickly pinned Dylan to the ground.
Several strong men stepped forward to hoist the heavy casket away.
I cast a cold glance at the wooden box.
"Dump his body somewhere in the woods."
"Gift this premium burial plot to a stranger."
Dylan went completely berserk, screaming at the top of his lungs.
"Mom! You can't do this!"
"If you do, I swear I'll kill myself right here and join him!"
"I will personally tell him how venomous you are, refusing to give him peace even in death!"
He thrashed wild and frantic, nearly breaking free from the guards' grip.
The butler hurried over, trying to soothe the escalating chaos.
"Young Master, watch your tone with your mother!"
"Ma'am, please take a breath and calm down."
"Let's handle this as a family back home."
Hearing those words, I managed to regain a fraction of my composure.
Looking down at my son's bloodshot, hateful glare, a sharp ache pierced my heart.
We had just begun mending our strained relationship, only for it to shatter completely.
Ever since George was diagnosed with heart failure, Dylan had looked at me like a murderer.
In his twisted mind, I was the one who drove his father into an early grave.
