Chapter 3

3 Liz was stunned by my sudden change of heart.

Over the years, my career had stayed relatively quiet, not because of my acting, but because I chose to step into the background to support Landon.

"Celine, are you completely sure? Once you sign the contract, there is no turning back."

"I'm sure."

I used to believe I had found true love, but it had all been an illusion.

Watching Landon laugh flirtatiously on the balcony, I walked into the study.

Remembering the agonizing pain from that day, I drafted a public statement.

"I apologize for falling down the stairs after a gentle push from actress Renee during filming. I will work on my balance in the future."

As I hit post, I clutched my lower abdomen.

The ghost of that searing pain seemed to rip through my body all over again.

Seconds later, Landon saw the post.

He burst into the room, roaring with fury.

"Celine, what is wrong with you? Renee was so gracious, and you post this passive-aggressive garbage? What are you trying to imply?"

"You are utterly vicious!"

My silence only fueled his rage.

He snatched the laptop from the desk and hurled it straight at me.

With a violent crash, the laptop shattered against the wall.

A sharp shard of plastic slashed across my neck, slicing open an old scar.

That scar was from the day I threw myself in front of a falling steel beam on set to save Landon.

That accident ruined my promising career and left me scarred for life.

It was right after that accident that Landon proposed to me for the first time.

Back then, he traced the fresh scar with trembling fingers and swore: "Celine, no one has ever sacrificed so much for me. I will love you forever."

Now, the scar remained, but the man had broken every promise, unable to even look at me with respect.
