Chapter 1

To please her precious darling, my fiancée of forever, Bethany, dumped me in the sticks to rot.

Three years later, she showed up with Mr. Perfect in tow.

She had the nerve to say, "Three years is long enough for even a dog to learn its lesson."

"I'm doing this for you, Nathan. Unless you change your attitude, don't even think about being my husband, Bethany."

Everyone probably figured I'd break down, blubbering about how much I missed her and how awful the last three years had been, begging her to take me back.

But I just gave a quiet chuckle.

"Sorry, Bethany."

"I'm married now."

...

I was heading back from a shoot when I noticed a parade of fancy cars parked outside the old Henderson place.

They were all new to me.

As I got closer, I could hear the party inside.

"I wonder what happened to Nathan after three years. Is he a hillbilly now?"

"He was never a Henderson! Bethany just took him in as a foster kid. He should be grateful."

"Yeah, no blood relation. The Hendersons should be praised to put up with him."

"Nathan's got a temper. But I figured he's learned his lesson after three years."

A deep voice cut through the chatter, quieting the yard for a second. I recognized it C Ethan's.

Bethany's golden boy.

He moved in with Bethany after his dad died in a car wreck. And that's when I was sent to the middle of nowhere.

"Ethan has already lost his parents. Your words are so mean. He's been so kind to you!"

"You can come back when you've learned some manners."

"Otherwise, you'll stay there forever."

"I'm doing this for you, Nathan. Unless you change your attitude, don't even think about being my husband, Bethany."

Doing it for me?

Give me a break.

She was doing it for me when she constantly took Ethan's side?

She was doing it for me when she shipped me off and forgot I existed?
