Chapter 3
"Damn! He's hot," I whisper exclaimed to Daniella. "I know right?" She whispered back dreamily. "He's Sumpton Frederick? I didn't expect him to be like this." I did not quite know what I expected the owner of this huge group to be like, but definitely not this. "No. I mean he's your immediate boss. Winthrop Dickson. You'll report to him." Suddenly those heavy footsteps began inching closer to us. Even the tapping sound heightened my nervousness. While I was solving the jumble of nerves inside me, Ariel over here was overtly drooling at my boss. Alright, I'll leave him for her. Sorry good-looking guy, you are bro-zoned. "So you're the new girl?" I didn't realize when he reached right in front of me. His tone was brusque and totally non-comforting. "Yes, hello. I'm Fel-" "Daniella get those files from Sumpton's office upstairs and get this girl to work. We don't have all day." He cut me off and went away completely ignoring us. Note to self: All men in this building are arrogant assholes. Another note to self: Resist the urge to smash their heads or else you might end up getting fired. Exactly ten minutes later I had a huge pile of files containing financials of six companies from which one best was to be selected. And as my co-worker was on leave, I had to do it all by myself. What an amazing first day. Note the sarcasm. Finally, finally, after seven hours of rigorously analyzing those damn financials, I could draft a research report and pass it on to Mr. Dickson. I never got a chance to take a break because my crazy boss hated delays! "Goodbye Daniella." I was finally done with the day. "So how was day one?" She asked playfully, mocking me. "Oh, this is what I dreamed of. It was perfect," I exclaimed dramatically while she let out a giggle. I proceeded towards the elevator, waving goodbye to some of the friends I'd made here when a sudden nostalgia hit me once again. Because something happened, once again. The jerk wearing a dark grey suit bumped into me once again. The contents of the maroon folder in his hands scattered down, settling onto the pristine floor in a mess. Suddenly everything went silent. The only sound that could be heard was that of those light sheets of paper rustling haphazardly. Kill me. That was all I could think of at that moment. Not because of the fear. Because of the way he looked. Now that I could have a better look at him, I saw just how charismatic this man was. He was the breathing example of perfect. Every feature about him was perfect — the sharp edge of his ticking jaw, the seductive curve of his lips which were now set in a thin line, his charcoal eyes blazing down at me, his dark brown strands of silky hair, and pretty much everything. He was just so good. But that was until he opened his garbage of a mouth. "Do you always walk with your eyes closed? Fucking nuisance," he spat harshly and I lost it. "What. Did. You. Say?" I challenged, crossing my arms. I swear I saw a hint of amusement in his eyes but it vanished as quickly as it arrived. He took a step closer to me thinking his hard expression and insane height would scare me off. No Mister. Not happening. "Get out of my way," he demanded. "There's plenty of space. Why don't you move aside." I refused to back down. It wasn't even my fault. He was too busy on the call to not notice me at the turn. Not to mention his eyes were glued to the damn folder. "Watch your mouth while you talk to me." "Oh, I'm so scared. Please accept my sincere apologies." I scoffed. "I don't have time to waste on you. Get out of my sight." He effortlessly pushed me aside. I almost lost balance but the wall supported me this time. What a douche! There was no way I was leaving that unanswered. "Listen Mr I Am Too Dumb To Understand Sarcasm, maybe it's you who should watch your mouth. Seriously, who even gets so pissed at such a small accident. And in case your mind couldn't process, it was your fault and not mine. So why don't you shove that arrogance up your- "Oh my god, Felicia!" Daniella's horrified voice stopped me mid-sentence. She passed me a silent warning to shut my mouth before turning to this atrocious man. "I'm sorry, Mr Jackson. She's new here- "Shut up and get lost." He dismissed her and she ran away like her life depended on it. It did. And so did mine. Mr Jackson, she said. It means... Holy mackerel! Was I throwing so much attitude at my boss? Kill me! For real! How could I be so stupid? My once determined stance crumbled to pure terror once I realized what my silly mouth just did. I mean it was his mistake but maybe I should have just let it pass. What was I thinking? He leaned across the wall casually with a taunting smirk hanging on his lips. He was enjoying the ashen look on my face and the trembling of my body. "I... I didn't know you were my boss. I didn't mean to... I'm sorry... I." I managed, cursing myself. He again took a menacing step close to me. This time I scrambled back and his smirk grew at my defeat. "You're fired." "No. I'm Felicia Thompson." Shut up you dumb bitch! He lightly shook his head in annoyance and started walking away. "You seriously want to fire me just because of this frivolous accident." I tried to keep the tremble in my voice away. "Oh little lightning bolt! I just did. Now get the fuck out." "No, that's not fair Mr Frederick. You can't do this," I yelled, stomping my foot like a child.
