Chapter 3

The weeks passed and the relationship between Victor and Isabella strengthened, taking an increasingly intimate and secret turn. Each meeting was a mixture of passion and complicity, taking place in discreet places, far from the prying eyes of society and especially Sophie.

One evening, in a luxurious suite of a discreet hotel on the outskirts of the city, Victor and Isabella were lying on the large bed, lulled by the soft light of the candles. Isabella, with her hair scattered across the pillow, looked at Victor with an intensity that made him shiver.

"Victor, you know I care about you," she said softly, her fingers tracing circles on his chest. "But I'm worried about you." Sophie is not the woman you think she is. »

Victor, lying next to him, sat up slightly. "What do you mean, Isabella? Sophie is... complicated, but she is my wife. »

Isabella sighed, as if weighing each word before speaking. "I don't want to hurt you, but I've heard things. Things that could change your perception of her. »

Victor frowned. "What things?" »

Isabella bit her lip, playing the hesitation card. "I have friends in the industry, well-informed people. It seems that Sophie has been cheating on you for a long time, with an influential man. They say she's taking advantage of your absence to lead a double life. »

These words hit Victor like a punch. He looked at Isabella, searching for signs of lying, but she seemed sincere, her eyes shining with compassion.

"Do you have any proof? » he asked, his voice trembling.

"Not yet, but I'll find some." I just want you to be prepared, not to be caught off guard. »

Victor looked away, lost in thought. The idea that Sophie could cheat on him deeply upset him. He stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the city below.

Isabella got up and came to join him, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I'm here for you, Victor. Whatever happens, I will support you. »

Victor turned towards her, a new determination in his eyes. "Thank you, Isabella. I will seek the truth. If what you say is true, then there is nothing left to salvage between Sophie and me. »

The following days, Victor plunged into his work, using this as an escape from his personal torments. His absences at home became more and more frequent, fueling tensions with Sophie. She felt the growing gap between them, but ignored the real reason.

One evening, when Victor was back late once again, Sophie was waiting for her in the living room, her eyes filled with sadness and anger. She got up as soon as he crossed the door, her trembling voice with emotion.

"Victor, we have to talk. »»

Victor sighed, exhausted. "Not tonight, Sophie. I'm tired. »»

"No, Victor. It can't wait any longer. What's going on between us? Why are you still absent? »»

Victor looked at her, looking for the right words. "Sophie, you know how demanding my work is. I do my best for us. »»

Sophie shook her head, tears rolling on her cheeks. "It's not just work, and you know. Something has changed. You have changed. »»

Victor felt cornered. "And you, Sophie?" Do you have something to tell me? Something you hide me? »»

Sophie looked at him, perplexed. "What do you mean?" »»

"I know everything, Sophie. I know you're wrong. Words came out harder than he had wanted.

Sophie remained mouth, shocked. "How do you dare?" I have never cheated on you, Victor. I love you, despite everything that is happening. »»

Victor clenched his fists, taken between anger and doubt. "Isabella told me ..."

"Isabella?" The furious Sophie interrupted Sophie. "Do you take the words of a stranger against me?" This woman manipulates you, Victor, and you are too blinded to see him. »»

Isabella's name resonated in the air, amplifying the tension. Victor looked at her, looking for signs of duplicity, but Sophie seemed sincere, her bright eyes of pain.

"How can you believe this woman over your own wife?" » Sophie continued, her voice trembling with indignation. "I have always supported you, always been there for you. And now you reject me for lies? »

Victor remained silent, torn between his feelings and Isabella's words. He no longer knew who to trust, and this uncertainty consumed him.

Sophie, seeing that he did not answer, shook her head, resigned. "I don't know what to do anymore, Victor. If you can't trust me, then there is nothing left to say. »»

She turned away from him, her shoulders shaking with sobs. Victor watched her go, a deep pain tearing through his heart. He felt trapped, unable to discern the truth in this chaos.

The following week, tensions continued to build. Victor, despite his doubts, continued to see Isabella, seeking in her the comfort that he no longer found at home. Isabella, for her part, played her role skillfully, enveloping him in gentleness and support, while continuing to distil his lies.

One afternoon, when they were alone in Victor's office, Isabella placed a hand on his. "Victor, I'm worried about you. This situation with Sophie is only exhausting you. »

Victor nodded, fighting against fatigue. "I know, Isabella. But I don't know what to do anymore. I'm lost. »

Isabella looked at him intently. "Sometimes you have to know how to let go. Maybe it's time for you to think about your own happiness. »

Isabella's words resonated within him, awakening a painful realization. Maybe she was right. Maybe it was time to end this toxic relationship with Sophie, even if it meant starting all over again.

That night, Victor returned home with a decision in mind. He found Sophie sitting in the living room, a suitcase at her feet. She looked up at him, her gaze filled with sadness.

"Victor, I can't live like this anymore," she said softly. "If you can't trust me, then I better leave." »

Victor felt a sharp pain in his chest. "Sophie, wait..."

But she shook her head. "No, Viktor. We need time. Maybe a little distance will help us see things more clearly. »

She picked up her suitcase and headed for the door. Victor stood frozen, unable to move or speak, watching the woman he loved leave without another word. The door closed behind her, leaving Victor alone with his regrets and his doubts.

The next few days were a whirlwind of confusion for Victor. Isabella, ever present, continued to support him, but a part of him couldn't help but feel a growing guilt. He knew that his relationship with Isabella had contributed to the breakup with Sophie, but he was too entangled in this web of lies to escape.

One evening, while dining with Isabella at a fancy restaurant, he felt overwhelmed by the weight of his decisions. Isabella, noticed his confusion and placed a comforting hand on his.

"Victor, everything will be fine. We have a future together. »

Victor looked at her, seeking comfort in her words, but only finding more questions. He wondered if he had made the right choice, if he had not sacrificed something precious for an illusion.

The dinner continued, but Victor's thoughts were elsewhere, haunted by Sophie's face and the memories of their life together. He wondered if he could ever undo the damage caused by his actions, or if the path he had chosen was now irreversible.

Isabella, sensing his distraction, smiled softly at him. "Don't worry, Victor. We will get through this together. »

Victor nodded, trying to convince himself that it was true. But deep down, he knew that the dangerous connections he had made would follow him for a long time, and that the price of his choices would be higher than he had imagined.

As he walked Isabella home, Victor felt a weight on his heart. He knew that

difficult decisions awaited him, and that for each lie revealed, a painful truth would come to light. But for now, he went with the flow, hoping to find a way through this storm of passion and regret.

The night was dark and cold when he returned home alone. The house, usually so warm with Sophie's presence, seemed empty and silent. Victor sat in the living room, staring into space, thinking about what he had lost and what he still hoped to find. The dangerous liaisons he had maintained with Isabella had opened a breach in his life, a breach which threatened to engulf everything he had built.

Victor knew he had to face his choices, face the consequences of his actions and, perhaps, find a way to rebuild what still could be. But for now, he was content to sink into the solitude of his thoughts, hoping that one day, the light would return to his life.

That's everything available right now.
