Chapter 1
1
It has been three years since I died.
The woman staying by my husband’s side all this time is a bionic android I meticulously developed.
She looks exactly like me.
She was programmed with every one of my habits, gestures, and ways of speaking.
The only difference is that she never gets angry with him.
Because of this, my husband never suspected a thing.
Every night, he brings different women home, trying to provoke me.
He wants to see me driven mad by jealousy.
Until today, when his childhood sweetheart pushed “me” off the balcony.
My husband was horrified to find that “I” don't seem to bleed……
……
A heavy thud echoed through the air.
“I” slammed onto the manicured lawn of the villa’s courtyard.
It sounded like several mechanical parts had jolted loose inside.
The culprit who pushed “me” leaned over the railing, her voice dripping with fake panic.
“Alaric, something happened! Elara jumped!”
Alaric Sterling, my husband.
He heard the cry and strolled over with a slow, indifferent pace.
His tone was thick with contempt.
“Jumped? You mean Elara? She’s certainly desperate for attention, coming up with such a pathetic stunt.”
“Fine, I’ll give her what she wants just this once.”
There wasn't a single flicker of concern on Alaric’s face.
Instead, he glanced down as if he were granting a stray dog a moment of his time.
He saw “me” lying motionless on the grass, clear as day.
Yet, his expression remained cold and unmoved.
“That’s enough, Elara. Stop acting. I’m standing right here talking to you, so don't push your luck.”
He assumed that because he had spoken, I would obediently crawl back up.
To him, his attention was the ultimate prize.
But after waiting for a long time, he didn't get the reaction he wanted.
Alaric’s face darkened completely.
“Elara Winslow, don't be ungrateful. My patience is wearing thin!”
The woman beside him, Rosalie, whispered purposefully.
“Alaric, maybe we should go down and check. What if something is actually wrong?”
Alaric let out a cold laugh.
“It’s only the third floor, not the thirtieth. Falling from here is like a scratch. Could it really kill her?”
The villa only had three floors.
A normal person falling from here likely wouldn't die, but they would definitely be hurt.
If they landed on their head, it could even be fatal.
Alaric seemed to ignore this, or perhaps he just didn't care if I lived or died.
If I truly died right in front of him, he would probably be relieved.
Unfortunately, I had already died once. I couldn't die a second time.
Three years had passed, and Alaric still hadn't noticed.
The “me” lying on the ground, the one who had stayed with him for three years―wasn't me.
She was just a companion android I had carefully crafted.
As for the real me, I had failed my mission from the System, and my physical body had been destroyed.
My soul, however, remained trapped in this world.
By some twist of fate, I ended up inhabiting the body of this robot.
I couldn't control her actions, nor did I need to.
In terms of appearance and programming, she was a perfect replica of who I was when I was alive.
The chip in her brain held every single one of my memories.
The joints in “my” body were misaligned, seemingly jammed from the impact.
The system was stuck in a temporary reboot state.
Alaric, unable to see these anomalies, mocked me with a raised eyebrow.
