Chapter 2

2.

Garrett dropped me off at our house and sped away immediately.

He claimed he had urgent business at the office, but I knew he was taking Lila shopping.

On the ride back, Lila had been showing him pictures of designer bags and whining.

He had agreed to buy one without a second thought.

I recognized the bag―it was the latest Hermès, costing nearly fifty thousand dollars.

I had once hinted that I wanted a bag like that for our anniversary.

His response back then was cold.

"Vivian, can you stop being so wasteful? Is a bag like that made of gold? Don't be so shallow. "

It turned out he didn't hate spending the money; he just hated spending it on me.

I dragged my exhausted body upstairs.

When I opened the door, our oversized wedding photo hit me like a slap in the face.

Three years ago, in front of all our friends and family, he had knelt on one knee.

He swore he would love me for the rest of his life.

Now, that memory was nothing but a cruel joke.

I walked over, ripped the photo off the wall, and shoved it into the trash can.

Right then, my mentor called, her voice sounding hopeful.

"Vivian, have you really made up your mind about the London offer? It's a three-year commitment. "

I took a deep breath and slid the wedding ring off my finger.

"I'm sure. "

My mentor couldn't hide her excitement.

Three years ago, she had tried so hard to convince me to go.

I was at the peak of my career when I chose to marry Garrett.

I could have gone abroad to further my studies and built a fashion empire of my own.

If I had gone then, I would probably be a world-renowned designer by now.

Instead, I gave it all up for Garrett.

I became a nameless freelancer taking small online orders just to get by.

More importantly, I became his live-in maid.

I took care of every detail of his life so he could focus entirely on his business.

My mentor always felt it was a tragedy for my talent to go to waste.

She told me that if I ever changed my mind, the door would always be open.

Thankfully, it wasn't too late.
