Chapter 3

Within half an hour, my older brother and younger brother rushed to the venue.

Seeing my distressed state, my younger brother, Leo, cursed furiously.

"Gwen, I always knew that pretty boy was absolute trash!"

"Don't worry, I won't let those two scumbags off the hook. I'll make sure they pay!"

I hesitated, wanting to speak, but my older brother, Gavin, glared me into silence.

Gavin stared at me with a cold expression.

"Gwen, are you about to give me that bullshit about keeping the peace and not being a bully?"

"Get this straight: when you're soft, people walk all over you! If it weren't for your sake, I would never have agreed to let that parasite marry you."

"This is no longer just your personal business. The Shaw family is trying to wipe their feet on the entire Prescott family!"

"We don't go around picking fights, but since when do second-rate clowns get to throw dirt at our doorstep?"

"Keep your mouth shut. The men in this family will handle this."

I opened my mouth, but couldn't find the words to argue.

Deep down, I knew Gavin was completely right.

It was true that our families had been close, but that was rooted in my father's friendship with Harold, and our grandfathers' brotherhood from their military days.

Ever since I got together with Carter, I had poured countless family resources into propping him up.

When the Shaw business faltered, I routed our corporate funds to stabilize them.

When Carter was marginalized, a single phone call from me got industry heavyweights to back him, using raw capital and connections to forge him into a supposed financial prodigy.

Later, he proved to be hopeless dead weight, squandering premium resources while chasing girls and slacking off.

I felt guilty about burning through my family's assets, so I stepped in, worked relentlessly, and became an actual Wall Street heavyweight myself.

I gave Carter everything, allowing the Shaw family to ride our coattails and feast on our success.

And in the end, all of it was met with cold betrayal.
