Chapter 2

2

My father looked incredulous, his voice trembling.

"Is... is there a mistake? You really chose my daughter?"

The cold voice replied, "Mr. Thorne, Mr. Sterling chose her personally. How could there be a mistake?"

"If the Thorne family intends to treat this marriage as a joke, be prepared for the consequences."

My father broke into a cold sweat and quickly began to flatter the caller.

"I was just overwhelmed with excitement! Our whole family is honored. We will cooperate fully!"

The call ended, and the phone slipped from his shaking hands.

He turned to me, his face dark with rage.

"You idiot! if you hadn't fought with Sawyer, we wouldn't have provoked the Grim Reaper of the Sterling family!"

"That man sent his own father to prison. Do you think marrying into that family is a blessing? You're dreaming!"

Before he could finish, his hand swung toward me.

I didn't flinch. "Dad, what do you think Soren Sterling would do if he found out his fiancée was being beaten?"

My father's face turned bright red, but he stopped himself, too afraid to offend the Sterlings.

"I'll see what kind of game Soren is playing!"

He slammed the door and left.

I stood there in a daze.

Sawyer's betrayal, my father's schemes, an unknown marriage... it all cut deep.

Half an hour later.

The Sterling family's driver arrived with servants carrying eight sandalwood chests.

Inside were various top-tier jade and diamond jewelry sets.

"Miss Thorne, this is one part of the betrothal gift from Mr. Sterling."

Listening to the driver, my heart skipped a beat.

I thought the Sterlings were just going through the motions, but this was a massive display of wealth.

Soon, footsteps echoed from the stairs.

Sawyer had his arm around Lulu's waist as they walked down. They froze when they saw the open sandalwood chests.

Clearly, they had no idea what had just happened.

Lulu intentionally showed off the marks on her neck, leaning into Sawyer while crying softly.

"I'm so jealous that Shae can marry her beloved so grandly. Unlike me, who can't even give our child a proper name..."

Sawyer gave me a smug look.

"Shae, you were crying for a breakup just a few days ago. Now you've already prepared your dowry? You're that desperate to marry me?"

He then turned his gaze to Lulu, his eyes full of adoration.

"The Montgomery family lacks nothing. Let's just give all of this to Lulu."

Lulu covered her mouth in fake shock.

"Shae, are you really giving all of this to me?"

Sawyer cut in, "Of course. Consider it a gift for the baby."

"I couldn't possibly..."

Before she could finish, she was already telling the bodyguards, "Take these to my villa. Be very careful with them."

The villa was a gift Sawyer gave her last month, supposedly for the baby.

In a matter of moments, the eight chests were hauled away.

From beginning to end, I didn't say a single word.

Lulu didn't forget to give me a provocative look before she left, her hand stroking her belly.

I leaned against the wall and sneered.

I wondered what the "Grim Reaper" Soren Sterling would do if he knew his gifts were stolen.
