Chapter 1

I was disfigured in a car accident while saving Luna Vance. On the day of my surgery, she was on a luxury yacht, gifting a million-dollar watch to her male intern for his birthday.

She posted a photo on social media with the caption, "Luka is definitely my type!"

My finger slipped and I liked the post. A second later, she deleted it.

Luka called to apologize, but Luna snatched the phone away and snapped at me.

"Jaxen Reed, that is enough!"

"Your face is so disgusting now it makes me sick. Is it a crime for me to look at someone else?"

Shortly after, Luka's profile updated. It was a video of the two of them kissing under a canopy of fireworks.

In the past, I would have demanded an explanation from Luna.

But this time, I only sent her a private message.

"Have a great time."

Luna stormed into my hospital room just as I came out of surgery.

She threw a stack of cash at me, reeking of expensive tequila.

"So I celebrated Luka's birthday, so what? Why are you being so petty?"

"Take a look at your face. It is repulsive!"

I reached up and gingerly touched my face.

If it weren't for saving Luna from that car wreck, I wouldn't have charged into a fire that could have exploded at any second. I wouldn't have been disfigured in the blast.

Now, all of that had become the reason she despised me.

I looked down, feeling the thick layers of gauze wrapped around my head.

"You used to say my face was your favorite thing in the world."

"That was then, Jaxen. This is now!"

"Tomorrow, pack your things and get out of my house!"

Luna threw a massive tantrum.

She grabbed whatever she could find in the room and hurled it at me.

Several items struck my fresh wounds, and I felt the warm seep of blood through the bandages.

But I couldn't even bring myself to be angry.

Because Luna had a face that I could never hate.
