Chapter 2

The first time I met Melody was at my engagement party. She had poured red wine all over herself and blamed me for it. Dominic jumped to her defense immediately. He barked at me to apologize, but I refused.

Dominic actually tried to slap me that night. My mother was so stressed she had a medical emergency and collapsed right there. It was only thanks to Uncle Arthur, a family friend, that the situation didn't get worse.

Later, Melody found me in private. She told me Dominic truly loved her and asked why I was getting in their way. She challenged me, saying she'd take him back in no time. That night, I asked Dominic about their relationship.

"Melody and I grew up together," he snapped. "She's like a sister to me. Can you stop being so disgusting and insecure?" After that, I stopped bringing her up. You can't wake someone who is pretending to be asleep.

I thought my silence would keep the peace. I never imagined she'd have the nerve to crash my mother's funeral.
