"Becca, it seems wearing other people's things brings bad luck. It's better to return it to the rightful owner," I said calmly.

Becca screamed and clutched her ear. Blood started seeping through her fingers. I didn't feel a shred of pity.

I remembered when she scalded me and when she burned my family alive. She didn't blink then, so why should I?

"You set me up!" she hissed, looking like she wanted to claw my eyes out.

I gave her a mocking smile. "What? You just walked in the door and you're already making up lies?"

"You―!" Becca tried to argue, but my mother-in-law wasn't having it.

The old woman hated me, but she hated Becca even more right now. "Shut up! You think this is a playground? If you want to be a mistress, learn the rules. Go serve Macy her tea. If you spill a drop, you're out!"

Becca went quiet. She had worked too hard to climb into a wealthy family to give up now. She brought a cup of tea and held it out to me.

"Macy, please have some tea," she said with a fake smile, though her eyes were burning with rage.

I smiled back, keeping my posture elegant. "Becca, you really don't know the rules, do you? You're supposed to kneel when you serve the lady of the house."

"Don't push it," she gritted out through her teeth.

"What? Are you saying my family's traditions are a joke?" I asked.

My mother-in-law barked, "If she tells you to kneel, you kneel! Stop talking!"

Becca bit her lip and dropped to her knees. She raised the cup. "Macy, please have some tea."

I took my sweet time taking the cup, leaving her kneeling there.

Jasper frowned. "Macy, that's enough. Becca is pregnant. You'll hurt the baby."

The mother-in-law's face changed instantly. "Pregnant? Why didn't you say so? Macy, what are you doing? Help her up right now!"

Her attitude flipped faster than a coin. I swallowed my disgust and helped Becca stand.

Becca immediately straightened her back. She gave me a triumphant look, her lips curling into a sneer.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, Macy. I'm four months along. The doctor said it's a boy. You've been married to Jasper for three years and haven't had a single child. Are you barren?"
