Chapter 1

Prologue：

1 The moment I posted my wedding ring on Instagram, my husband's first love slashed her wrists.

My husband was convinced I did it on purpose just to provoke her.

As massive waves crashed around us, he trapped me alone on a boat, knowing nothing terrified me more than deep, open water.

My body convulsed in pure agony, but he looked ecstatic watching me suffer.

"Doesn't this brush with death feel amazing?"

"You put Lindy in the ICU, Corina. You brought this entirely on yourself!"

He got his wish.

When the tenth brutal wave slammed into the boat, I actually died.

My soul drifted up from the freezing, dark surface of the ocean.

Garrett was still controlling the boat with the remote, his eyes bloodshot like a demon straight out of hell.

We grew up together as childhood sweethearts, yet I had never seen him look so terrifying.

For his precious first love, Lindy, he actually wanted me dead.

"Corina, you knew Lindy had severe depression, so why the hell did you post that picture to trigger her?"

"You already forced me to marry you. Wasn't that enough? Your jealousy is disgusting!"

When I did not answer, he accelerated the boat, driving it straight into another surging swell.

"Why are you playing mute now? Weren't you always so quick to talk back?"

"This is your karma!"

I floated above, looking down at my soaked body lying motionless on the deck, my lips already turning blue.

Even in death, I had to watch the man I loved most torment me over and over again.

Maybe Garrett finally got tired of his sick game.

He steered the boat back to the shore.

Seeing me lying still, he scoffed in disgust and kicked my limp body a few times.

Garrett had no idea that my corpse was already ice-cold.

"You really know how to play the victim, don't you? You only spent an hour on the water, but Lindy ended up in the hospital because of you!"

We had grown up side by side, yet Garrett knew nothing about my crippling phobia of deep water.

On the other hand, he memorized every single one of Lindy's little preferences.

He slapped my pale face with his hand.

"Still playing dead? If you go apologize to Lindy right now, I might give you another chance."

"Otherwise, I'm divorcing you the second we get back!"

I still did not respond.

A flicker of panic flashed across Garrett's eyes.

After all, he was the center of my universe when I was alive.

The day I found out I was going to marry him, I was so thrilled I stayed awake all night.

Whenever I caught him sneaking around with Lindy, he would always threaten to cancel the wedding to keep me quiet.

Yet now, I gave him absolute silence.

Just when I thought Garrett was about to realize I was dead, his phone rang.

The call erased every shred of doubt in his mind.

It was Lindy.

"Garrett, where are you? My wrist hurts so bad, everything hurts..."

Lindy's soft, whiny voice instantly filled Garrett's head.

"I was just teaching Corina a lesson for you, baby. I'm coming over right now, okay?"

Hearing that Garrett had punished me for her, Lindy cheered up, though she still pretended to be innocent.

"Garrett, what if Corina hates me and doesn't want to be my friend anymore? You know I don't have any other friends..."

Her pathetic act worked on him like a charm.

Garrett shot a venomous glare at my body while whispering tender words into the phone.

"I will always stay by your side."

"You're just too kind, Lindy. Corina did this to you, and you're still sweet enough to forgive her."

Lindy sounded thrilled. "Garrett, please hurry over."

Garrett did not spare me a single backward glance. He walked to his car on the shore and drove off.

Watching him leave my corpse behind, my heart shattered into pieces.
