Chapter 3

My body went limp, and Sterling caught me.

He scooped me up and ran toward the entrance, shouting for help.

"Move! Out of the way! My wife collapsed!"

The crowd parted immediately.

I heard a few girls nearby whispering with envy.

"Isn't that the CEO who's famous for being obsessed with his wife?"

"Look at how worried he is. I thought it was just a PR stunt, but he really loves her."

Sterling didn't take me to the emergency room.

He exited through a back door and drove me to a private hospital his company funded.

The staff was already in on it. With a fake report and a forged scan, the doctor gave the verdict.

"The patient has cervical cancer. We need to operate immediately!"

I was wheeled into the OR.

Serena was already there waiting. A lead surgeon stood by the table.

Sterling paced back and forth, barked orders at the doctor.

"Do a perfect job. My wife cannot have any complications!"

Serena touched his arm. "Don't worry, Sterling. She needs to be healthy to raise our baby later. She'll be fine."

Sterling nodded. "Valerie loves kids. You'll have to give me plenty. Two boys and two girls."

Serena's smile was suggestive. "Well, you'll have to work very hard for that, Mr. Sterling."

She traced a circle on his lower belly with her finger.

Sterling's desire flared up instantly. He pulled Serena out of the OR, leaving me with the surgeon.

At that moment, the doctor cut into me.

I felt the cold bite of the blade. My heart sank into total despair.

Suddenly, the doctor turned pale. His scalpel clattered to the floor.

His voice trembled. "Her uterus... it doesn't meet the criteria for donation."

"She's pregnant. It's twins!"
