Chapter 3
3..
But honestly, who cared?
Maisie and I weren't the type to stay hung up on men who didn't deserve us.
Three months had passed. We spent our time dodging Cillian and Gideon while exploring hidden gems across the country.
Eventually, we settled down in a charming, quiet town in the South.
It was a tourist spot, but very laid back. There were plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops.
I rented a small cottage with a courtyard. We spent our afternoons drinking tea and relaxing.
"Sera, I'm so happy here. I think I've traveled enough to last a lifetime," Maisie said, leaning back in her chair.
She was always the type to go with the flow.
I rolled my eyes at her.
"You're so easy to please. Just a cup of tea and you're satisfied?"
To my surprise, she shook her head and handed me a warm scone.
"No, this isn't enough. I've moved on, Sera, but I don't think you have."
She trailed off, giving me a mysterious little smile.
I tapped her on the forehead.
"Spit it out! What are you planning?"
She dodged my hand, giggling.
"The bistro across the street has a live band tonight. It's that indie group you're obsessed with."
"Plus, they're hosting a mixer. There will be tons of hot guys there. I want you to get dressed up and find me a new brother-in-law. Stop thinking about that loser!"
I blinked, then burst out laughing.
"Wow, Maisie. Trying to set me up already? You really are a piece of work."
But she was right. Over the last three months, I hadn't truly let go of Cillian.
Maisie wasn't as oblivious as I thought. She had seen every moment of my sadness.
That night, we got all dolled up and headed to the bistro.
The band was incredible. I was screaming like a teenager, surrounded by other fans with glowing light sticks.
I felt so lucky. They rarely performed live anymore, and I thought I'd never see them again.
Suddenly, someone tapped my shoulder. I turned around to find a handsome stranger.
He was wearing a black beanie and a varsity jacket. He looked like a college student.
His eyes were bright with excitement.
"Hey! Do you love this band too?"
Before I could answer, Maisie gave me a sharp nudge with her elbow.
"She loves them! They're her absolute favorite. You must be a fan too. You guys probably have so much to talk about!"
The guy's smile widened.
"That's awesome! Are you guys visiting? I'm a junior at the university nearby. If you need a tour guide, I'd love to show you around."
Well, look at that. A little bit of luck.
We exchanged numbers and enjoyed the rest of the show together.
He insisted on buying us drinks, and his puppy-like energy made Maisie laugh the whole time.
"Oh, I just remembered! I forgot to feed the cat back at the cottage. I should go," Maisie said with a mischievous wink.
She was a terrible liar, but she was clearly trying to give us space.
But as she opened the door to leave, the smile froze on her face.
A deep, commanding voice came from the entrance.
"Since when are you not allergic to cats? Did you get a miracle cure?"
That's everything available right now.
