Chapter 2 The Ice Queen
I walked inside and quickly looked around.. There she was, sitting majesticly in her chair, legs crossed behind her huge white desk. The white marble floor was creeking under my steps. The Ice Queen didn't even looked up from her laptop, as I stopped in front of her desk. Her phone rang on the desk, she glanced at it and answered as she signaled me to sit down.
"What now?" asked in a cold and demanding tone. How polite - I cuckled inwardly.
"If you can't do your job just came back here and pick up your two weeks' notice at the HR department. If, however you want to keep working for me you do as I say and stop your little actions and side hustles" - she ordered impatiently and ended the call.
I swear if she talked to me like that I would choke her right on the spot. I hated her already and felt sorry for myself if I have to see her smug face everyday for two months. She took a deep breath and turn towards the guy who was standing next to her the whole time.
"Go there. I don't trust that bastard. See and supervise the deal yourself and I swear to God, if he tries to step over me again, I'll kill him." With a mean look the guy in his forties nodded and left the room immediately. Now, it was just the two of us in the enourmous office. She finally lift her gaze to meet mine and said in a monotorius tone
" I apologize for the inconveniance Mr...."
"Miller. Rober Miller, Madame" - I said introducing myself.
"So , Mr. Miller, after reviewing your resume it caught my attention you didn't fill in the part regarding your work experience"- she said , her gaze never leaving mine. I kept silent as her question got me off guard. She looked at me with a questioning look.
"Did I stutter Mr Miller?"
"No, Madame, of course not" - I said finally, cursing her name in my head.
"It's just that I don't have any relevant work experience, that's why" ,
" But you do have SOME experience right ?! I mean, a man in his late twenties had to work somewhere , right?" - said giving me that look again , like she sees right through my soul.
All my confidence shattered when she said those words. I hated her. I despised her. Sitting in front of me in her huge office, like she owned New York. "No, babe, you were born into this, just like me, with the silver spoon in your mouth, don't act like you got that chair by working for it. Your daddy gave it to you. Fine, you inherited but whatever"- I wanted to say but of course I could't. Not yet. I had to calm myself before answering.
"Well, I completed the intership program at my university but after graduating I couldn't find a job in my field , so I worked part time jobs to support myself" - I lied.
She looked me dead in the eye "what jobs?" ,
" mostly in warehouses and bartendering , Madame" - I lied again.
"You should enclose them in your CV next time"
"I didn't think it mattered"- I mumbled.
"What's that, Mr Miller? Please speak up! I hate when people mumble. Either say it or don't say it , but never mumble ." she retorted. God, this entitled bitch....
"I'm sorry , I just said I didn't think these kind of jobs mattered in your company as I never worked in your area before" ,
"Any kind of job matters Mr Miller. It says a lot about ones character what have they worked before, don't you think?"
What can she mean, I had no idea and honestly I didn't care. I just wanted to get this over with. I felt extreamly uncomfortable under her constant gaze and her questions. She finally looked away and I had a moment to breath. She shoved her brown hair away from her face and turned back to me.
"So the position is PA. I need an employee by my side 24/7 on weekdays and sometimes on weekends too. I need to be able to reach you at any time and you will be attending meetings with me as well. Of course you have to be present at my office as well. Your job would be quite demanding as arranging and managing my meetings and schedule would also be your responsability. Given your studies I don't think that these task should be problematic for you. Do you have any family, children, a wife Sir?"
"No, no I don't "
" Girlfriend,fiance?"
"No".
"Then occasional weekend shifts shouldn't bother you, right?" - she stated more than asked. No, of course not, my life revolves around you, princess - I frowned inwardly.
"Of course not" I said out loud.
"I need you to head down to the HR department one floor below. They will sort your contract out. Your salary will be 5000$ a month with a 3 months probation period. For a year, every three months your payment will be raised depending on your performance. But HR will enlighten you with the rest. You can start tomorrow. Lydia will fill you in with the details. Thank you. You can leave" she literally said this with one breath. My brain needed a few moments to understand what she meant. I just sat there looking dumb while she was already occupied on her laptop. She glanced at me with her brows arched and asked
"Mr Miller do you need something? Or you didn't understand a word I said?"
"I .... I ...you mean I got the job?"
" Why else would the HR handle your contract?!? Mr Miller get yourself together and adjust to the pace of the work enviroment around you. I already emailed your info to Human Resources, please proceed to go to them then come back to Lydia."
"Madame?!"
" The blondie outside my door Robert, don't make me regret my decision to hire you!!" - retorting me on a first name basis already but I was so stunned that I got the job that I didn't mind. I thanked her and took my leave right to the HR. To my surprise they were waiting for me. This company really runs smoothly it seemed. After HR, I went back to see the blondie to ask about my tomorrow. As she saw me walking towards her she stood up acting like she had to arrange some documents then stopped and arched her ass out while leaning on her hands on her desk. She wanted to appear tempting but she looked rather cheap I thought. I asked her about my job and when excately I have to arrive to the office tomorrow. She answered with a flirty voice and placed a little note in my hand.
"This is my number. You can call me anytime. I am looking forward working with you Robert."
"Thank you"- I blurted out then strode towards the elevator right away. When I stepped inside I glanced at the little piece of paper in my hand and read : "555-673 Lydia xoxo". I scoffed and threw the paper to the first bin as I excited the building.
Tomorrow will be a start of something that I didn't know will change my life forever.
