Chapter 2 Her Heart Beat Faster

"Sorry, I had the wrong place." After blurting this out, she finally came to her senses. Then, she turned around and was just about to leave.

Slightly raising his thin lips, Alex said in a deep voice, "Are you really going to come and leave just like that?" He stood up. His tall frame moved closer to her, giving off such an intimidating aura, which made Wendy panic. Then, he said, "Are you playing hard to get?"

Trying to remain composed, Wendy flatly replied, "I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding." To prevent the man from reading too much into it, Wendy explained, "I just want to go to the restroom."

"If a woman unbuttons a man's shirt, do you think that's going to make him lose his mind?" After saying these words, he slammed the table with his knuckles. It made such a loud noise that Wendy's heart started pounding loudly in her chest.

Pulling herself together, she said in a rather cold tone, "We were just playing Truth or Dare. I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. If I caused you any trouble, I hope you can forgive me."

Hearing this, Alex raised his eyebrows slightly, curling his thin lip. Then, in a hoarse and magnetic voice, he said, "I thought you were throwing me hints or something!"

Looking straight into the man's deep gaze and his handsome face, which was glimmering in the light, Wendy furrowed her eyebrows and curled her lip as well. "I'm not interested in men who are old enough to be my uncle."

Wendy only said this to stop the man from having any weird ideas.

She just really wanted to keep him from getting his hopes up.

"Uncle?" Alex frowned a little when he heard this, and his bright eyes darkened a little as well, revealing a hint of mystery in it. "Do I really look that old to you? Or is this just how girls flirt with guys these days?"

He didn't look old at all.

It was just that he gave off a mature, elegant, and masculine vibe, which girls liked very much.

She couldn't help but feel that he was just too strong. No matter what she said, he could easily refute with only a few words, leaving her unable to say anything else.

In the end, Wendy straightened her clothes and said, "See you later!" Simply put, she didn't want to have anything to do with this man anymore.

He smirked and said, "Does that mean we're going to meet again someday?"

The smile on his face looked so attractive. In fact, it would probably be enough to enchant a lot of women.

Wearing a deep frown, she downright refused him before leaving, and she said, "Never again!"

As he watched her receding figure, Alex's mysterious eyes narrowed slightly. Whether they were going to see each other again or not was not up to her. For as long as he wanted, he could see her at any time.

Alex's assistant, Jim Tan, came in and politely handed some documents to him. "This is all the information we could get about her, Mr. Alex."

"Wendy Gu, Ace Tang's fiancee..." As the blue flame rose, Alex lit up a cigarette. It was hard to read the expression on his face, however, he said to his assistant in a rather flat voice, which seemed particularly complicated, "Have you booked the ticket?"

"Everything is ready. You may leave at any time." Upon saying this, Jim Tan asked Alex, "The secretaries have booked a hotel there. Will you check in directly or..."

"I heard that he has been staying at the hotel and having the time of his life, surrounded by pretty women. Isn't that right?" Before Jim Tan could finish his words, Alex abruptly cut him off.

Even without asking, Jim Tan knew who Alex was referring to. So, he quickly answered, "Yes, he's staying at the NC Hotel."

"I'll go and meet him first." His cold voice echoed in the room as he stood up, revealing the light that was hidden before. The light had been covered by his figure. And he gave off a naturally imposing aura.

Soon, a day had passed.

The flight was right on schedule and went smoothly. The plane landed safely in A City. After dragging her suitcase out, Wendy took a deep breath.

Someone was walking towards her.

"Hello, Miss Gu. I'm the driver of the Tang family," the driver greeted her and introduced himself. Then, he reached out his hand to take the suitcase from Wendy and politely said, "Mr. Tang asked me to pick you up. The car is ready outside."

"Thank you," Wendy replied. Then, she went on and said, "I can do it myself."

"Miss Gu, you are welcome..."

After leaving the airport, the driver put her suitcase in the trunk and started the car. And the two of them headed to the villa of the Tang family.

At the age of eight, she was brought back to the Tang family by Barry Tang, and she could barely remember anything about that time. At the age of eighteen, she was engaged to Ace under the request of Barry Tang. After that, she decided to further her studies abroad and didn't return until today. Now, she came back to the Tang family as the future daughter-in-law. Wendy couldn't help feeling weird because of it.

The villa was about an hour away from the airport. As soon as they arrived, the driver politely helped Wendy take out her suitcase. After taking a good look at the villa in front of her, she finally walked in. Before she reached the living room, she heard a sharp female voice.

"What? Are you crazy, Barry Tang? How can you let a wolf into our family?"

"And why can't he come back?" a man's voice echoed in the room.

"He has been away for so many years, and now he intends to take over the Tang Group. Are you seriously going to leave the Tang family in the hands of an outsider?" the woman exclaimed again.

A deep frown appeared on Wendy's face. She could recognize the voices before she even saw them.

The calm male voice belonged to Barry, Ace's father. As for the sharp female voice, it belonged to a woman named Joy Chi.

"Take over? An outsider?" Barry Tang snorted, "He's a member of the Tang family, not an outsider. As for the company of the Tang family, you shouldn't underestimate his abilities. He has achieved a lot of things in his career. Now, he's willing to return to the company of the Tang family. I don't think it's a bad thing. Simply put, he's capable of leading the Tang Group to a higher level."

"Barry Tang, why do you think so highly of him? Do you want him to take Ace's place?"

"Ace's position isn't going to change. As for him..."

Waiting for what Barry Tang was going to say next, Joy Chi looked at him anxiously.

Barry Tang then said word by word in a firm tone, "He will take over my position."

Standing at the door, Wendy was shocked.

Did Ace have a brother?

She had stayed in the Tang family for so many years, but she never heard anything about this. Now, after hearing about it for the first time, she found it so hard to believe.

However, considering Joy Chi's response, Wendy realized that this "brother" was not Ace's biological brother, but his half-brother.

"What?" Joy Chi exclaimed in astonishment and couldn't believe her ears. Looking Barry Tang straight in the eye, she asked, "Have you lost your mind?"

Barry Tang simply snorted and completely ignored her question. Then, he walked towards the door and seemed to have seen something. "Wendy?"

When she saw Barry Tang in front of her, Wendy greeted him, "Uncle Barry."

In the entire Tang family, Barry was the only one who treated her nicely.

"How long have you been there? Why didn't you come in?" Barry Tang welcomed Wendy with a kind smile and seemed much more approachable compared to when he was arguing with Joy Chi.

When Joy saw Wendy, she sat on the sofa without saying a word. Needless to say, she didn't want to welcome Wendy to her home.

"I just got here," Wendy replied. When she glanced at Joy, she wasn't bothered by her attitude at all. In fact, she casually walked up to her and greeted her in a rather flat tone, "Aunt Joy."

Joy Chi sneered and just ignored Wendy.

Several years ago, when there were talks about the engagement, Joy Chi was completely against it. However, Barry Tang had already made up his mind. Because of the inheritance right of the Tang family, Joy Chi didn't want to have a fall out with him. That being said, it didn't mean that she would let Wendy become her daughter-in-law.

Barry Tang wore a deep frown. Afraid of embarrassment, he softly said to Wendy, "You're probably tired after the long ride, right? Why don't you go upstairs and have some rest? I'll ask Ace to come back later."

Ace must have known that Wendy was coming back, but he didn't show up. This must be his way of telling her that he was totally against this marriage.

But, that was exactly what Wendy wanted.

Truth be told, Wendy came back this time with the intention of calling off the engagement.

"Ace is busy. He won't be back anytime soon," Joy said coldly.

Barry Tang shot her an intense glare.

"Uncle Barry, if there isn't anything else, I'll go back to my room now and get some rest."

Wendy entered her own room. It was well-decorated, delicate, and beautiful, but she wasn't pleased with it at all.

After taking a shower, she felt much better.

Knock, knock, knock.

She heard three knocks on the door. Before she could even say anything, someone pushed the door open and came in.
