Chapter 3

My Uber took them straight to the cemetery.
The moment the car stopped, Hudson jumped out and slammed the door.
"Why did you bring us here? I just got married! I don't want this bad luck rubbing off on me!"
I pulled out a cigarette and lit it slowly, pointing toward my father's headstone.
"Does that place look familiar to you?"
He hadn't been there, so of course he didn't know what I meant.
He just paced around irritably.
"Stop playing games! Take us to the hotel. Everyone is tired!"
Even now, all he cared about was Gigi's family.
My family meant nothing to him. I let out a sharp laugh.
"You're tired? Did you ever think about how my father felt? What was he thinking when he passed away while holding my hand?"
Hudson flinched and took a step back.
"What are you saying..."
I looked at the grave in the distance.
"He's lying right over there. Are you too much of a coward to even look at him?"
"Or are you just ashamed?"
Hudson froze. Then he grabbed my arm and shook me violently.
"Just because I didn't come back, you buried him early? Do you have a soul?"
How hilarious. He was the one who screwed up.
Yet he had the nerve to blame me.
I shoved his hand off me, my heart aching with grief.
"Because of you? Who do you think you are? You broke my father's heart long ago!"
"His last wish was just to see you one more time. But what were you doing when I called? You were in a hotel room with Gigi!"
Remembering that night made my vision go red.
I wanted to tear them both apart.
Hudson knew he was wrong and lowered his head.
Gigi's father stood nearby, looking completely indifferent.
"It's not a big deal! You're just a driver, stop complaining or you'll be fired!"
Gigi nodded quickly beside him.
"Exactly! We're married now. Do we really need your permission for everything we do?"
My expression grew colder. These people were nothing but heartless leeches.
They had drained Hudson dry, and now they wanted to drain me.
I wouldn't let them have a single drop.
I owed it to my late father to stand my ground.
Hudson saw the look on my face and realized I was truly furious.
He lowered his tone and tried to take my hand.
"Look, let's just go home and talk about this behind closed doors. Stop making a scene. I'll go pay my respects to your dad."
I shook my head.
"You can go. But they stay here."
I was terrified my father wouldn't be able to rest in peace if those animals went near him.
Gigi's father's face twisted in rage.
"You little b―"
"I agree. Take me there now," Hudson interrupted.
I turned around in silence. He followed behind me, never stopping his complaining.
"What were you thinking? You should have told me about the funeral date. People are going to laugh at me for missing it."
"What did Dad say before he died? I know I messed up, but you can't treat me like this."
No matter what he said, my only response was silence.
Finally, he couldn't take it anymore and grabbed my hand.
"Why are you acting like this? You're being so selfish!"
I finally stopped and looked at him with pure disappointment.
"I called you that night. You were in the shower, and Gigi answered."
Hudson's eyes widened. He pulled out his phone and checked his call logs.
When he saw the record, his hands began to shake.
I saw a flicker of guilt on his face for the first time.
"I... we were just tired that night, so I took a shower... but nothing happened!"
I raised a hand to stop him.
"What you did doesn't matter to me anymore. After today, we are strangers."
"I only brought you here to fulfill my father's last wish. Don't overthink it."
Hudson looked down, sounding unsure.
"You're just talking out of anger... You wouldn't actually leave me, right?"
I knelt before my father's grave and bowed. When I stood up, my gaze was steady.
I made the most important decision of my life.
"Hudson, we're done. It's over."
That's everything available right now.
