Chapter 2

I was so mortified I wanted to disappear. I tried to pull away, but my body wouldn't obey.
I actually wanted him to do something. I wanted him to take control right there.
Suddenly, the sounds from next door stopped. The silence brought me back to my senses.
I hurried into my apartment and bolted into my bedroom. I needed to breathe.
But the quiet didn't help. My thoughts were racing.
He was my best friend's son. How could I even consider this?
Plus, I was still legally married to Jeremy. We were only in our separation period.
But the image of Lucas's massive frame wouldn't leave my head. I could still feel his chest against my back.
My skin felt like it was on fire. I pressed my legs together, trying to find some relief.
The heat only got worse. Sweat began to bead on my forehead.
I couldn't take it anymore. I went to the bathroom to take a cold shower.
I assumed Lucas was in his room. I stripped off my clothes and stepped under the water.
But as the water ran over me, my hands began to move on their own...
Suddenly, I heard heavy breathing. I looked toward the door and saw a pair of intense, hungry eyes.
It was Lucas! I scrambled to turn off the water and grab a towel.
My clothes were in a heap on the floor. I was damp, and my skin was glowing under the bathroom lights.
I had been so caught up in my own world that I hadn't heard him enter. Had he seen everything?
My face went white. I tried to push past him to get out.
But my legs felt like lead. After two steps, I stumbled and fell to the floor.
Lucas knelt down next to me. His eyes roamed over every inch of my body.
"Wow, Elena," he whispered. "I didn't know you played like that."
From his angle, he could see everything I was trying to hide. I was ashamed, but I couldn't look away.
"Lucas... how much did you see?" my voice was barely a whisper.
The sound of my voice seemed to provoke him. His breathing got even heavier.
Just when I thought he was going to touch me, he stood up.
"I'm starving," he said, his voice tight. "I want to eat."
He stared at me with a look that suggested I was the only thing on the menu.
I nodded quickly, fumbling with my clothes. I hurried to the kitchen to cook.
I made the oysters and a few other dishes. The meal was incredibly awkward.
I kept thinking about what he had seen. But Lucas acted like nothing had happened.
He finished eating and went straight to his room. I told myself he probably didn't see much and tried to relax.
But the next morning, I woke up to an empty house. I was about to call him when a text arrived.
"I want to play a game, Elena."
I had a terrible feeling about this. My phone buzzed again immediately.
"Put on the toy I left on the coffee table. Then, go to the campus square. If you don't play along, I might have to tell everyone about your little secret."
I stared at the device on the table. My heart dropped.
I thought about calling his mom, Nancy. But she'd never believe me. She'd think I was the one who went after him.
