Chapter 3
3
After a sudden breakup, I did feel a bit of lingering sadness.
But I also understood that our values were too far apart. Even if we didn't break up today, we would eventually.
After chatting with my mom for a bit, I hung up and drove home to sleep.
I only had two days left before leaving.
Until then, I didn't want any contact with them.
The next morning, I was woken up by a dog barking.
When I opened my eyes, I was staring into the eyes of a black-and-white Border Collie.
I jolted awake in shock.
Xavier, who had returned at some point, saw my reaction and sneered.
"A grown woman scared of a dog."
I splashed some water on my face to wake up and asked him.
"What is this?"
Xavier started tossing my clothes into a box nearby.
"Zia said she wants to be part of the whole pregnancy experience in this house. I told her to just move in."
"The three of us will live together. That way, you won't get jealous because you can't see me."
"But she's afraid of the dark, so I'll have to trouble you to sleep in the guest room for the next ten months."
As soon as he finished speaking, I saw all my things from the master bedroom being cleared out and dumped by the door.
Zia walked in, pushing several suitcases, smiling.
"Don't worry. I'm pregnant, so I won't be too hard on you."
Xavier gave her a doting look.
"Even if you wanted to, I wouldn't allow it."
I didn't want to watch them be lovey-dovey. I stood up.
I was leaving tomorrow anyway. I didn't care who lived in this room after that.
The guest room was much smaller than the master.
I immediately started packing my bags. I planned to sell anything I couldn't take and only keep the gifts my family had given me.
But as I searched, I realized something was missing.
Seeing my camera bag empty, I finally realized the camera worth tens of thousands that my mom gave me was gone.
If I remembered correctly, Zia was a photographer now.
I rushed back to the master bedroom.
Inside, Zia was holding my camera, unable to hide the smirk on her face.
I couldn't believe Xavier had gone so far as to help Zia steal from me.
I lunged forward and snatched it back.
"Hey! I was taking great shots!" she yelled.
I ignored her and checked the camera. After seeing it was fine, I sighed in relief and glared at her.
"Did no one ever teach you that stealing is a crime?"
Zia blinked, acting hurt.
"I didn't steal it!"
Xavier immediately stepped in and shoved me away.
The force sent me crashing into the corner of a table. My grip loosened, and the camera tumbled to the floor.
I heard the sound of my heart breaking.
Xavier frowned at me.
"I took it. It's just a camera. You don't even know how to use it anyway."
"Would you rather break it than let her use it?"
Zia held his hand and shook her head.
"Don't fight with her because of me. It's okay. You can just buy me a new one later."
"My hand hurts a little."
She actually started squeezed out tears.
Xavier was heartbroken and immediately pulled her into his arms to comfort her.
"Don't cry. I'll buy you a better one! I promise!"
"As for her, I'll get even with her for you!"
I silently knelt down and picked up the broken camera.
It didn't matter. Once my visa was ready tomorrow, I'd be gone.
That's everything available right now.
