Chapter 2
2.
"If I were you, I'd pretend I never saw a thing today."
At the hospital, Nona crossed her arms, her face completely cold.
Just an hour ago, I caught her cheating in my car with the very assistant I had hired for her.
She had even split my head open.
I couldn't believe this heartless stranger was the wife I had lived with for seven years.
"We're both adults here. It's normal to have a little fun on the side," she added when I stayed silent.
Nona was always a proud peacock, never bowing her head or admitting a mistake.
Even after betraying our vows, she didn't think she was in the wrong at all.
"You cheated on me, Nona. You don't even apologize, and you expect me to act like nothing happened?"
I clenched my fists so hard my knuckles turned white.
She let out a dry laugh. "You want an apology from me?"
"How pathetic, Chase. What right do you have to demand anything from me?"
"I'm the one carrying this whole family. All you do is cook meals at home, and I pay you a monthly allowance. I bought the house and the cars."
"To put it bluntly, you're just a kept man. Keep your nose out of my business. If I'm in a good mood, you're my husband. If I'm not, I can kick you to the curb anytime."
I used to love her with everything I had.
Every single day, I took care of all the chores, prepared hot meals, and waited for her to come home.
I would massage her tired shoulders and run her bathwater.
To her, I had become nothing more than an obedient dog.
She seemed to have forgotten why I was stuck doing housework in the first place.
Years ago, when we went hiking, I threw myself down a cliff to save her from falling.
That accident ruined my lower back, leaving me in chronic pain and unable to handle heavy labor or drink alcohol.
When we built the startup together, we agreed she would handle the external business while I managed the home.
Back then, she held my hand gently. "Honey, you just rest at home from now on. I'll provide for you."
When I asked if she would look down on me as a freeloader, she smiled softly.
"Of course not. You're the one who built the foundation of this company. I'm just reaping the rewards you made possible."
Now she was rich and admired by everyone as CEO Upton.
Yet she had completely forgotten every promise she made and everything I sacrificed for her.
