Chapter 1

A hurricane struck our coastal town, but my doctor husband redirected all emergency resources to save his first love.

After he coldly hung up on me again, I watched in horror as my living room floor-to-ceiling window shattered and blew away into the storm.

In my past life, he rushed home through the tempest the moment I called, saving my pregnant self.

Yet, he missed his first love's desperate cries for help, leading to her bleeding out and dying in the storm.

He claimed it was an accident and blamed no one, but on the day of her memorial, he dragged me to the hospital rooftop and shoved me off.

"If you hadn't called me home, Alina wouldn't have died!"

"You wicked woman, she was carrying my baby when she died! Now go down to hell and beg her for forgiveness!"

When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day of the hurricane.

This time, he chose her without hesitation, abandoning me to the storm.

So, I decided to let them have each other.

The hurricane howled outside, rattling the doors and windows with violent shrieks.

Watching the huge living room glass buckle under the fierce wind, sheer terror gripped me as I dialed my husband's number.

The call would not go through no matter how many times I tried.

In my past life, Gavin had answered immediately, rushing back to evacuate me to safety before the worst hit. I had never realized how deadly our apartment became after we left.

A sudden, sharp cramp seized my abdomen, followed by a rush of warm fluid trickling down my legs.

My water had broken.

I was going into preterm labor.

Panic surging, I dialed the emergency dispatch center, and Devin, a young dispatcher from Gavin's hospital, answered.

"Sadie? Why are you calling the emergency line?"

I had frequently brought home-cooked lunches to Gavin at the hospital, so Devin recognized my voice right away.

"Devin, I'm in labor, and I can't reach Gavin. Please, can you send an ambulance to my place?"

Another wave of searing contractions hit me mid-sentence, making me gasp for air.

Devin's voice turned troubled over the line.

"Sadie, Dr. Brooks just took the last available emergency ambulance, and the top OB-GYN specialist went with him."

"Please hold on, I'm trying to coordinate with other regional units right now―"

Before he could finish, a tremendous gust slammed into the living room, and the floor-to-ceiling glass blew out entirely with a deafening crash.

I grabbed onto the doorframe for dear life, nearly sucked out into the raging storm.

My phone was ripped from my hands and lost in the chaos. Gale-force winds tore through the room, sending furniture flying into the abyss.

I never expected to face a life-or-death crisis the very moment I woke up in this second chance at life.

In my previous life, I had never endured this horror.

Back then, I sensed the danger early, called my husband, and he brought an ambulance to take me safely to the hospital.

Meanwhile, his first love, Alina, had sent him over a dozen desperate texts that he never noticed in time.

Later, the paramedics told us that Alina had experienced preterm complications during the storm, stepped out into the tempest, and was fatally struck by flying metal debris.

Gavin had fallen silent for a long time upon hearing the news, looking at me with an unreadable expression.

"Just focus on resting. It was an accident, and nobody is to blame."

At that time, I even secretly felt blessed to have such a caring husband.

Although my baby had shown slight signs of early labor, it was nothing serious, and I was kept under observation for a few days.

I never imagined that on the day of Alina's memorial, Gavin would barge into my hospital room like a madman.

Ignoring the fact that I was heavily pregnant with his child, he dragged me violently to the rooftop.

"If you hadn't called me home, Alina wouldn't have died!"

"You wicked woman, she was carrying my baby when she died!"

Alina was married to another man, so why was she pregnant with Gavin's child?

His words left my head spinning with confusion.

Before I could ask for the truth, Gavin had already shoved me over the edge of the rooftop.

He sneered down at me with pure venom.

"Alina and my baby are gone. What right do you have to live? Go to hell and apologize to them!"

Until the moment I hit the ground, I couldn't fathom how Gavin had transformed into a monster within two days.

My final memory was his cold gaze looking down at me as I plummeted through the air.

His bloodshot eyes held no trace of love, treating me not as his wife, but as a sworn enemy.

Dying was agonizingly painful.

Yet what broke me completely was my seven-month-old unborn baby, who was so close to entering this world.

His own father had ruthlessly stripped away his right to be born.
