Chapter 1

It was my husband Ian’s birthday, and I was standing alone in front of a table full of food.

I was waiting for him to bring our daughter, Talia, home. But instead of them, I got the hundredth taunt from his assistant, Wendy.

It was a video of Ian and Wendy, wearing matching outfits, making out in his downtown apartment.

I was used to videos like this.

But what finally broke me was what I heard at the end of the video―the voice of my five-year-old daughter, Talia.

"Auntie Wendy is pretty and smart, not dumb like my mommy. I want Auntie Wendy to be my new mom."

In that moment, I realized I was done fighting for a marriage that was already dead.

When I handed Ian the divorce papers, he thought I was just throwing another tantrum.
