Chapter 1
Chapter 1
"I want to terminate my pregnancy! My husband doesn't give a damn about me!"
I was waiting for my prenatal checkup when I overheard the pregnant woman in front of me sobbing to the doctor.
Her face was full of grievance as she listed all of her husband's faults.
Oddly enough, her husband shared the exact same name as mine.
Except hers was the CEO of a multi-billion-dollar enterprise, while mine was just an ordinary corporate drone.
I didn't think much of it and stepped up to the counter, filling out my medical history, along with my spouse's information and phone number.
The next second, the doctor looked at me with a bizarre expression.
"Ma'am, you need to provide your actual family details."
"You can't just copy what the lady before you wrote."
I froze in place.
I instinctively glanced at the intake form left on the desk by the woman before me.
Under the husband's section, everything was identical to what I had just written. The name, the phone number, the date of birth, even the residential address―every single detail was an exact match.
While I was still reeling from this impossible coincidence, the pregnant woman started crying again.
Seeing that her emotional state was spiraling, the staff quickly dialed her emergency contact.
When the call connected, a man's deeply doting voice blasted through the speakerphone.
"What happened, sweetheart? Who dared to upset my baby?"
Tears burst from her eyes the moment she heard him.
"Who's your baby? Devon Sinclaire, you don't love me at all! I'm getting rid of this baby right now, and we're getting a divorce!"
"Once it's finalized, I'm flying across the country to somewhere you will never find me!"
The man on the other end panicked instantly, his voice dripping with desperation.
"Janey, please just stay right there for me. I'm heading over right now!"
She hung up the phone and sat aside with bloodshot eyes, maintaining a cold silence.
I stood paralyzed, unable to pull myself together. That voice was far too familiar.
A wild, terrifying thought crept into my mind.
I looked closely at what she was wearing and shook my head, trying to dismiss the thought.
She was draped in luxury from head to toe, wearing designer pieces that my blue-collar husband could never afford.
"Ma'am, here's a new form. Please make sure not to make any mistakes this time."
I compared the information again, wondering if pregnancy hormones were causing me to hallucinate. How could such an absurd coincidence exist?
The doctor chuckled from beside us.
"You two really share a strange fate. Not only did you write the same emergency contact, but you actually look quite a bit alike!"
Hearing this, the woman looked up at me in surprise.
For some reason, my chest tightened under her curious gaze, and a wave of panic washed over me.
It felt like my entire life was violently slipping out of my control.
I managed a strained smile and reached for the pen. Just then, an urgent voice pierced the air.
"Janelle! Are you okay?"
I turned instinctively and saw the face I looked at every single morning and night.
I opened my mouth to call his name.
Yet his eyes were locked entirely on her.
He rushed past me to Janelle, wrapping her in his arms as if she were the most fragile treasure on earth.
"You little troublemaker, you almost scared me to death!"
