My best friend and I married into the Sterling family and got pregnant at the same time.

I married Jameson, a top surgeon, while Aya married his brother Dixon, a police captain.

On our third wedding anniversary, my father-in-law was driving me to pick up my prenatal results when a car slammed into us.

He was in critical condition, and I was lying in a pool of blood, losing my baby.

In my agony, I called my husband, but his childhood sweetheart, Lyra, answered the phone.

"Jameson is busy with me. If there's anything, you can tell me," she said.

I didn't have the strength to wonder what they were doing.

"Let him talk! My father-in-law and I were in a crash. I'm losing the baby!" I screamed.

On the other end, Jameson's voice sounded cold and annoyed.

"Lyra cut her finger with a fruit knife. I'm just bandaging her. Do you really need to curse my father just to get my attention?"

He hung up immediately.

When I called back, his phone was off.

Aya rushed to the hospital and called her husband outside the operating room.

As soon as it connected, Dixon barked coldly.

"Do you know the consequences of filing a false police report? Lyra is hungry. I'm making her dinner. Stop calling."

He also turned off his phone.

That day, Aya's heart broke, and she lost her pregnancy from the extreme stress.

My baby and my father-in-law both died on the operating table.
