Chapter 3 Episode 3

Izzy tightened her grip on Luca's arm, her eyes filled with determination. "You have to talk, Luca. This isn't just about me anymore. If you're in too deep, I need to know so I can help you. We're family." Luca glanced around, ensuring no one was watching. "Alright, but not here. Follow me." He led her through a series of back alleys until they reached a small, dingy apartment. Inside, the space was cluttered but surprisingly neat for someone living a double life. Luca motioned for Izzy to sit on a worn-out sofa while he closed the blinds and locked the door. "Luca, what have you gotten yourself into?" Izzy asked, her voice tinged with worry. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's not what you think, Izzy. I didn’t have much of a choice. After Dad died, I felt lost. I started with small jobs, thinking I could get out whenever I wanted. But Enzo...he has a way of making you feel like you belong, like you owe him." Izzy's heart ached for her brother. "But Luca, this life...it's dangerous. You're putting yourself at risk every day." Luca nodded. "I know, and I've been trying to find a way out. But it’s not that simple. You don’t just walk away from someone like Enzo." Izzy leaned forward, her voice a whisper. "Luca, Enzo thinks there’s a mole in his organization. Do you know anything about that?" Luca’s eyes widened with fear. "A mole? No, I swear, Izzy, I don’t know anything about that." She studied his face, searching for any sign of deception. "You have to be careful, Luca. If Enzo even suspects you, it could be deadly." Luca nodded, his face pale. "I’ll watch my back. But you need to be careful too, Izzy. Enzo is dangerous, and if he finds out who you really are…" Izzy reached out, squeezing her brother's hand. "I know. But I have to do this. For Dad. For Mom. For us." Luca sighed, pulling her into a tight hug. "Just promise me you’ll stay safe." "I promise," she whispered, holding onto him tightly. Over the next few days, Izzy doubled her efforts, determined to uncover the mole and protect her brother. She kept a close eye on Enzo’s inner circle, noting their behaviors and interactions. She also began feeding small pieces of information to her FBI contact, careful to avoid detection. One night, she noticed something strange. Marco, Enzo's second-in-command, was acting unusually secretive. He slipped into a private room in the club, locking the door behind him. Izzy’s curiosity was piqued. She waited until he left before sneaking into the room, her heart pounding. Inside, she found a laptop left open on a desk. She quickly scanned the screen, her eyes widening as she read through the emails. Marco had been communicating with someone outside the organization, providing detailed information about Enzo’s operations. He was the mole. Izzy took out her phone, snapping pictures of the emails before quietly leaving the room. She needed to get this information to the FBI, but she also had to figure out how to confront Marco without raising suspicion. The opportunity came sooner than she expected. Marco cornered her one evening, his expression tense. "We need to talk, Isabella." Izzy feigned ignorance, following him to a secluded area. "What’s going on, Marco?" He turned to face her, his eyes cold. "I know you’ve been snooping around. You think I haven’t noticed?" Izzy’s heart raced, but she kept her voice steady. "I don’t know what you’re talking about." Marco stepped closer, his voice a low growl. "Don’t play dumb with me. I’ve seen the way you look at Enzo, the way you’re always watching. You’re up to something, and I’m going to find out what." Izzy’s mind raced, searching for a way out. "You’re paranoid, Marco. I’m just trying to do my job." He grabbed her arm, his grip bruising. "You better hope that’s true. Because if I find out you’re a rat, you’ll regret ever stepping foot in this place." Izzy yanked her arm free, glaring at him. "Get your hands off me, Marco." He sneered, stepping back. "Watch yourself, Isabella. This is your only warning." As he walked away, Izzy took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. She needed to act fast. Marco was onto her, and if he discovered her true identity, it would be game over. She decided to take a risk. That night, she slipped out of the club and made her way to a nearby payphone. She dialed her FBI contact’s number, her voice hushed as she relayed what she had found. "Marco is the mole. I have proof. But we need to move quickly. He’s getting suspicious." Her contact’s response was immediate. "Good work, Izzy. We’ll set up a sting operation. But you need to stay safe. Don’t do anything that could blow your cover." "I’ll be careful," she promised before hanging up. The next few days were a blur of preparation and anxiety. Izzy continued to play her role, acting as if nothing had changed. She watched Marco closely, noting his every move. The tension in the club was palpable, the air thick with suspicion. Finally, the night of the sting arrived. Izzy positioned herself near Marco, ready to act. The plan was simple: catch him in the act of passing information. The FBI would be waiting, ready to swoop in. As the club buzzed with its usual energy, Marco made his move. He slipped away from the crowd, heading to the private room where he conducted his secret communications. Izzy followed at a distance, her heart pounding. Inside the room, Marco pulled out his laptop, typing furiously. Izzy watched from the shadows, waiting for the right moment. When he was fully engrossed, she stepped forward, her voice calm but firm. "What are you doing, Marco?" He looked up, his eyes wide with shock. "Isabella? What the hell are you doing here?" "I could ask you the same thing," she said, stepping closer. "But I already know the answer. You’re the mole." Marco’s face twisted with anger. "You don’t know what you’re talking about." Izzy pulled out her phone, showing him the pictures she had taken. "I have proof, Marco. You’ve been feeding information to our enemies." Before Marco could react, the door burst open, and FBI agents swarmed the room, guns drawn. Marco tried to resist, but it was futile. He was quickly subdued and handcuffed. As the agents led him away, Enzo appeared in the doorway, his expression unreadable. He looked at Izzy, his eyes searching hers. "Isabella, what’s going on?" Izzy took a deep breath, knowing this was the moment of truth. "Marco was the mole, Enzo. I found the evidence and tipped off the FBI." Enzo’s gaze hardened. "And how did you manage to do that?" Izzy met his eyes, her own steady. "Because I’m an undercover agent, Enzo. I’ve been working to bring down your organization." For a moment, there was silence. Then, Enzo laughed, a harsh, mirthless sound. "An undercover agent. Of course. I should have known." He stepped closer, his expression cold. "You’ve played your part well, Isabella. But you’ve made a dangerous enemy." Izzy held her ground, her heart pounding. "I did what I had to do. For my family. For justice." Enzo’s eyes flickered with something she couldn’t quite read. "And now what? You think you’ve won?" "This is just the beginning," she said. "There’s more to this than you know, Enzo. And I’m going to see it through." He studied her for a long moment before nodding slowly. "Very well, Isabella. But remember this: in our world, loyalty is everything. Betrayal comes at a high price." With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Izzy to contemplate the dangerous path ahead. She had made a significant breakthrough, but the battle was far from over. In the heart of New York City’s ruthless underworld, the game of power and deception continued, and Izzy was determined to see it through to the end, no matter the cost.
