Chapter 3
Chapter 3
I returned to the private room.
All eyes shifted back onto me, eager to devour every detail of this love triangle.
Moments later, Garrett walked back in behind Gemma, wearing a sullen expression.
A bizarre tension filled the air.
Our class rep slid over to my side and whispered, "Chloe, are you really...?"
I offered a faint smile.
"I am not joking. I have already split the assets fifty-fifty to keep it fair. As for the joint venture company..."
I looked straight at Garrett and Gemma.
"I won't take a dime from that company. Consider it my wedding gift to you two. After all, it is named after both of you, which makes it so meaningful."
The mention of the company name silenced everyone who was about to offer advice.
As high school friends, they all knew Garrett and I were childhood sweethearts from matching family backgrounds.
Back then, everyone thought we would end up together.
Yet, just when I gathered the courage to confess my feelings, Garrett had already fallen for Gemma.
I tried to wish them well, but Gemma later proved she lacked commitment when she walked away from him.
So I stepped back into Garrett's life, loving and supporting him through his darkest days until we exchanged vows before both families.
Garrett became the center of my universe.
My closest friends called me a pathetic simp and a glorified maid.
I used to laugh and say, "Being by his side makes me happy. How can loving someone make me pathetic?"
Now, reality slapped me in the face.
Doormats never get a happy ending.
By the time we left the restaurant, night had fallen, and a light drizzle coated the pavement. Just as I unlocked my car, Garrett slid into the passenger seat.
I glanced out the window. Gemma was standing on the steps, staring at us with intense displeasure.
"Where is Gemma? Aren't you leaving with her?"
Hearing my calm question, Garrett widened his eyes in disbelief.
"I didn't drive tonight. Who else would I go home with?"
I fell silent.
We drove back to our house in complete silence.
The moment we stepped inside, Garrett kicked off his shoes and spoke in his usual commanding tone.
"Chloe, I am going to lie down for a bit. Wash some of those fresh cherries you bought and bring them to the bedroom for me."
He took my servitude for granted.
Without a word, I retrieved the signed divorce agreement and handed it to him. Garrett looked down, his eyes widening in shock.
"Chloe, are you for real?"
That's everything available right now.
