Chapter 2 AN HEIR
The Alpha makes my skin crawl.
Two days ago, I was brought to the Silver Moon pack- labelled a slave. Not just any slave, of course.
The entire pack believed I was Alpha Liam's plaything. A passing fancy of his.
He had kept me locked up in a room; personally bringing me food and water. For some reason, he did not want anyone to come in contact with me.
It's almost laughable.
Of course he would not let anyone else from the pack meet me. How would they all react when they found out their ruthless rogue killing alpha was mated to an enemy?
A mocking smile grows on my face as I think of this.
He's afraid of being weak.
Against my will, he brought me here. Why did he not reject me then? Why did he not end the bond that night?
I remember the faces of the packmates that night when he brought me. How they howled and laughed at my helplessness over his shoulder. How my mate had enjoyed their praises; listened to them commend him for such a catch.
My blood boils now as I think back to how humiliated I felt. It triggered me; being in the midst of so many stupid pack wolves. In fact I wanted to hurt every single one of them.
I wanted to shove their laughter down their throats and watch them choke on it.
Fools.
The sound of the door unlocking jolts me out of my thoughts. Before it opens, I know it's him.
Not just because he's the only one permitted here; but also because of his scent. I've gotten used to it now- the spicy, aggressive aroma of his skin.
The door opens and he steps in. Today, he holds a tray of cooked beef and some soup. I watch him lock the door behind him and set the food down on the bedside table.
He does all this without looking at me. I'm watching his every movement, taunting him.
"Stop that," Liam hisses- he's looking out the window and his fists are clenched.
I chuckle slightly, swallowing the fear that bubbles up to my throat. He is still a dangerous rogue killer; I cannot forget that.
"Stop what, sir?" The beef smells good so I take a piece and eat. It tastes divine.
Liam sighs and mutters something under his breath. "I'll be back later," he says, turning to leave. I immediately get up from the bed.
"No. No you don't get to do that, alpha..." My voice is low, filled with hate and venom. "You cannot just lock me in here for literal days! You either kill me or let me go. What's the use?!"
Liam's back is facing me; I see a vein on his neck tense up.
"You are nothing but a slave, girl. Stay silent."
I shake my head; my eyes are burning. I refuse to cry so instead, I match his tone.
"No. Gwen. My name is Gwen. If you must keep me here in your filthy pack, then free me from this room at least!"
Liam suddenly turns and his startling green eyes meet mine. There's an emotion floating in those eyes; bloodlust. He wants me dead so bad...
"You are the filth here," he says, taking a step closer to me. My heart drops and I move back. "Your kind are untamed, wild dogs who would be better off dead. I'm only sparing you..."
My back hits the wall and the rogue killer comes closer.
He's so close I can feel our breaths mingling, feel the heat of his sturdy body. I hate the way my skin tingles as he bends over my face; I despise how my lower belly tenses as he whispers my name.
"Gwen, is it? You'd do well to behave yourself around me."
Despite how much I'm shaking under his fierce gaze, I still find the words to challenge him.
"Why are you letting me live? Is it because I am your-"
Liam does not let me finish; the next second, his large hand has encircled my neck, choking me.
I feel my world spin immediately. Crack.
He lifts me off the floor and my back scratches against the wall.
My mouth opens to scream but nothing but low pitched shrieks come out. I try to claw his hand off me but with every passing second, I grow weaker.
"..lease. P-please..."
My mate's eyes are literally red from anger and something else. He pulls me from the wall and slams me on the bed, making it creak loudly. The wind in my lungs has been knocked out.
As I try to regain myself, I feel him lean over my shaking body.
"You have no right to call yourself my mate," he says. I open my eyes, meet his crazed ones. For some reason, he hates rogues enough to treat his own mate like this.
"K-kill me...please." If he was going to keep me locked up in this damned room for the rest of my life then I'd rather die.
I would rather fall on a sword than live as a pack wolf's slave.
It would be a disgrace to my parents' memories.
"Kill me," I say again, looking at him deeply. The tears I wished not to fall are falling now. They sting the sides on my face as they fall from my eye corners.
It burns; this feeling. It burns to know your mate hated you as much as you did him.
What a sick, twisted fate.
I can't blame him. If I could, I would kill him as well.
Liam's face is cold. He suddenly smiles, showing his sharp canines. It's a mocking, degrading smile.
"I cannot kill you, girl."
I want to use my claws to mangle him at this moment. I want to rip his horrible smile to shreds. But I can't.
I lie there, listening to him hiss out his words.
"I need something from you." He pauses, letting me frown in confusion. "I need an heir."
