Chapter 1

During the Labor Day weekend, I tried to save a child having a heart attack. I was a medical student, and I only wanted to help.

The rescue failed, and the mother demanded a massive payout. When I refused, my entire family was hunted by an online mob.

My parents lost their jobs and eventually jumped from our apartment building. Before he died, my father chose to donate his organs.

I never imagined the recipient would be the same woman who drove my parents to their deaths. She begged me for the transplant for her husband, promising to clear my name online.

I agreed, but she immediately betrayed me. The public outcry got even worse.

In despair, I threw myself off the roof. When I opened my eyes again, I was back on that Labor Day bus trip……

1

The bus slammed on its brakes, sending me flying into the seat in front of me. The impact made my head spin as I looked around the familiar scene.

I fumbled for my phone, my hands shaking. The screen read September 1st, 2024.

I had come back to life. I was back at the exact moment before I tried to save that little girl.

A woman's panicked scream pierced through the bus. "Lily! Lily, what's wrong with you!"

"Someone help me! Please save my daughter! She has a heart condition!"

My instincts as a medical student urged me to stand up. A second later, I forced myself to sit back down.

In my past life, I fought so hard to save her. When she died, her mother claimed I was the one who killed her.

She told everyone that if a real doctor had been there, Lily would still be alive. But we were on a remote mountain road, and an ambulance was hours away.

Since she wanted to blame me so badly, I decided I wouldn't touch her this time. I crossed my arms and stared out the window.

The driver pulled over, and a girl behind me stood up. "Ma'am, I'm a student. Let me try. Get the child off the bus first."

Brenda Miller, the mother, sobbed and thanked her. She grabbed the girl and rushed outside.

The passengers followed them to watch the drama. Right before the other student started, I grabbed her arm.

"Check for a pulse first," I whispered.

She gave me a weird look but followed my advice. Brenda's face was covered in tears as she knelt on the grass, waiting for a miracle.

The little girl's eyes were shut tight. Her face was pale, and her small body looked so fragile.

After a quick check, the student looked up at the crowd. "She doesn't have a heartbeat."

I wasn't surprised at all. Before I died in my last life, I found out Lily was already dead before I even started CPR.

Back then, the scene was a chaotic mess. People were shouting, and Brenda was begging me on her knees.

"She's so young, please! She's my whole life!" she had screamed.

I was just an undergrad back then, acting on pure adrenaline. The pressure was suffocating.

I only had one thought: Save her. I had to bring her back.

I didn't stop to check her status. I just pumped her chest until my arms went numb.

I never realized I was performing CPR on a corpse. I only told this new girl to check because I didn't want her life ruined like mine was.
