Chapter 2

Bennett was dressed in a black custom-tailored suit, followed by a dozen bodyguards.

He swept a cold glance over the room, then stepped forward and slapped me across the face.

"Stella Sterling, who gave you the balls to bully my sister?"

The force was so strong I lost my balance and collapsed onto the floor.

He completely ignored the blood soaking through the back of my lab coat and walked straight to Chloe.

He gently massaged Chloe's arm, his eyes full of tenderness. "Chloe, are you okay?"

Chloe looked like she was about to cry, pouting her lips. "Bennett, why did you take so long?"

"She almost snapped my arm off!"

Bennett's face darkened. He immediately ordered his guards, "Break her arm."

I struggled to get up, but the bodyguards pinned me down instantly.

Chloe's face, previously full of fake tears, was now twisted into a triumphant sneer.

I suppressed my anger, trying to be rational. "Bennett, your sister took over my lab and hid my medicine. This drug belongs to..."

Before I could finish, Chloe interrupted. "Bennett, she's the one who stepped on my dolls! This is a prime location. She's trying to steal my storefront!"

Bennett smirked, his eyes full of doting affection. "My little sister is growing up, wanting to start a business."

"You did a good job. Don't worry, I'll give you another five million dollars. Just focus on your grand opening."

Then, he turned his cold gaze back to me. "Why haven't you finished the job yet?"

"Bennett White!" I was frantic.

As a doctor, my hands were my life.

No matter how I pleaded, Bennett only cared about applying ointment to Chloe's arm.

My arm was wrenched out of its socket. The pain was so intense I went numb.

We grew up together. We were together for over twenty years. He even bought out a whole boutique for me last week.

I never thought he could be this cruel.

He didn't even let me finish a sentence before he played judge and jury.

But he had no idea. The man he was offending today was the very mogul he was desperate to work with.

I let out a cold laugh. "Bennett, you better make your sister hand over that medicine right now. That drug belongs to Lucian Vance. You cannot afford the wrath of the Vance family!"

He looked at me with disgust, his eyes lingering on my dusty lab coat.

"Ha! You're really committed to the lie, aren't you? Do you even know who Lucian Vance is? I waited at his office all day and couldn't even get a meeting. Why would he know a peasant like you?"

Chloe added fuel to the fire. "Exactly! Mr. Vance's research team has thousands of people and labs that cover hundreds of acres. What kind of garbage could you possibly make in this dump!"

She sneered. "You're just using his name because you can't afford to pay me back, right?"

I was almost laughing at the absurdity.

I didn't want to deal with them anymore. "Fine. A million dollars. I'll pay you. Give me the medicine."

I transferred the million dollars to Chloe's account immediately.

I asked with the last shred of my patience, "The money is sent. Where is the medicine?"

Chloe pulled six pills from her bag and began tossing them like marbles.

"Stella, just paying me back isn't enough! Did you forget?"

Her red lips curled into a nasty smirk as she pointed at the floor beneath her feet.

She wanted me to kneel.

I looked at Chloe in disbelief.

Bennett's voice was casual. "We're practically family. Once we're married, Chloe will be your sister-in-law."

"Just do what she says. Give her a proper apology, and we'll call it even."
