Chapter 2
Chapter 2
I first met Colton at a college party.
Back then, he was young, and his eyes held only me.
He pursued me relentlessly and openly, regardless of whether I cared or not.
His wealthy parents fiercely opposed our relationship, looking down on my middle-class background.
Colton rebelled against his entire family, declaring that he would marry no one else in this lifetime.
In the end, he even threatened to end his own life if they didn't let me into the family.
His parents were forced to surrender, and we finally tied the knot.
During our honeymoon phase, he truly treated me like his entire world.
If I casually mentioned craving pastries from an artisan bakery uptown, he would have his driver cross the city the next morning to buy them.
When I was browsing art books and admired a painting's palette, he quietly purchased an original piece from the same series and hung it in my bedroom.
Whenever he attended high-society galas, he never failed to announce to everyone that I was the only woman he would ever call his wife.
Yet it didn't take long for the rumors and scandals to surface.
Tabloid photos of him with different women and viral club videos of him holding hands with influencers popped up every few days.
I screamed, I wept, but none of it changed a thing.
Until that afternoon, when I went to his private club to bring him a jacket, and accidentally overheard him talking with his buddies.
A friend teased, "Colton, you swapped girls again? This model has an incredible body."
Colton gave a lazy laugh, dripping with smug pride.
"Of course I swapped. Sticking to one is boring as hell. Women are all about the thrill of something fresh."
Another friend asked, "What about the wife at home? Isn't she throwing a fit?"
He scoffed, treating me like a total non-issue.
"Harper? She is totally obedient. She knows her place."
The friend pressed, "You are really that confident leaving the house to her?"
He answered casually, "She isn't running the house; she is just entirely dependent on me. Without me, she is nobody, so she won't dare make a scene or walk away."
His friends burst into laughter.
"What if she finds out about all your side pieces and loses her mind?"
Colton raised his brows with total indifference.
"So what if she knows? With her soft personality, she will cry for two days and swallow it down. She has zero leverage against me anyway."
A friend added, "Aren't you afraid she will snap one day and tear you to shreds?"
Colton grinned even more roguishly.
"Tear me to shreds? She doesn't have the guts or the power."
From that point on, he slept with anyone he wanted, clean or dirty.
It was a runway model today, an aspiring starlet tomorrow, cycling through women faster than changing shirts.
Even worse, pregnant women started showing up at my front door, dropping to their knees and begging me for a divorce.
They claimed they were carrying Colton's baby.
I stood there without uttering a single word, waiting for Colton's reaction.
And he just stood nearby, watching in silence, curious to see how I would clean up his mess.
He never defended me, never explained anything, just watched coldly as if it were a ridiculous show that had nothing to do with him.
Scenes like that happened more and more often.
I gradually understood that his love had burned out right after we got married.
All that remained was his sick desire to control and use me.
The marriage he had once fought so hard for had merely become a shield for his reckless hedonism.
