My stepbrother is a sociopath. The day before my SATs, he poisoned my milk with a potent herbicide.

I collapsed during the exam, vomiting uncontrollably. The doctors said if they rushed me to the ICU and pumped my stomach immediately, I might have a chance.

My father said I was being dramatic.

My stepmother said it was a waste of money.

And my grandmother, she just lied through her teeth. “She’s faking it because she doesn’t want to take the test!”

“I saw her myself, fooling around with some boy outside. She was never going to get a good score anyway!”

They caused a huge scene at the hospital, then dragged me back home.

I was dead before I even left the hospital parking lot.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back. Back to the moment right before my brother poisoned me.

I took that glass of tainted milk and poured it straight into my stepmother’s special fertility tonic.

That night, all hell broke loose.
