Chapter 1

The school family event had just finished, and my son was begging for ice cream.

I braved the scorching sun to buy some, only to hear him say, "Dad, we can get rid of Mommy now, right?"

Zane Grayson stood beside him, a look of tenderness in his eyes that I had never seen before.

"Yeah. Summer's storyline is over, so she can stay here forever now," he replied.

"How about we let Aunt Summer be your new mommy?"

My son cheered and jumped for joy.

I turned around and tossed the ice cream into the trash, feeling lighter than they did.

The only reason I had agreed to be a stand-in female lead was to cure my cancer so I could spend more time with my real husband and kids.

The preschool was loud and chaotic after the event, but Zane and Xander's voices were carried straight to my ears by the wind.

"Dad, you should divorce Mommy as soon as we get home. I want Aunt Summer to be my new mom."

Zane nodded with a soft expression. "The storyline is finished. She's useless now. I'll bring it up to her tonight."

Xander's voice sounded a bit worried. "But Dad, Aunt Summer won't suddenly disappear, will she?"

"No," Zane said firmly.

"Her part of the story is done, so she won't vanish just because she's with me."

"She's going to stay and be with us forever."

Xander's face lit up with a huge grin. "Yay! That's great! I won't have to see Aunt Summer in secret anymore."

"Mommy is the worst. Once she's gone, no one will stop us."

"Dad, Aunt Summer is our real family."

The sun was beating down, and the ice cream melted all over my hand, but I felt a chill run through my entire body.

Seven years ago, I was dying of cancer.

My husband and two children were heartbroken, crying their eyes out.

To stay with them longer, I agreed to a deal when the System found me.

I had to travel to a parallel world and play the role of a tragic female lead.

I had to follow the script, win Zane Grayson's heart, and build a family with him.

Once the storyline was complete, I could return to my original world perfectly healthy.

The mission had been surprisingly easy.

I looked almost exactly like Zane's first love, his "white moonlight."

It was only natural that I became her replacement.

It took less than two years to go from being his secretary to his wife.

Maybe things went too smoothly, because I almost died giving birth to Xander.

Because of that, Xander was born weak and sickly.

Yet, every prenatal checkup had shown that both the baby and I were perfectly healthy.

Zane once asked me why this happened.

I joked with him, saying, "Maybe it's because you don't love me enough."

He blew up at me that day, and I felt guilty about it for a long time.

But later, the System told me that when I gave birth, Zane's love for me was less than thirty percent.

That was the lowest his love had ever been since we got married.

The System judged that the main plot had deviated, and a punishment was issued.

That punishment fell on my newborn son, Xander.

I felt so much guilt that I poured all my love into pampering and protecting him from then on.
