Chapter 2 Jan 2

Jan 2 I hate working at this CPA firm. The boss, Mr. Krinner, is a total asshole and pervert. He hadn’t stopped looking at me the moment I walked in and sat down at my desk. He even left his office door open which he never does and every time I looked up, he was staring at me. I have to admit that it was starting to make me feel uncomfortable. It got to the point that I actually had to shift my position so that I wouldn’t have to see him.

Thank God one of his appointments had arrived. Robert Sher walked up to my desk and signed in. The older man didn’t need to be told to take a seat and wait. “It’s a pleasure to see you, Miss Collette.”

“Likewise, Mr. Sher.” I told him then looked down at the paperwork on my desk. “He will be with you in a moment.” I glanced up and looked in my boss’ office and saw that he wasn’t sitting at his desk.

“You have done something different,” Mr. Sher said while staring at me. “You look very nice today.”

The fifty-year old man was a gentle old man. He was very nice man. “Thank you.”

Mr. Krinner poked his head from the doorway. “Mr. Sher can come in now.”

I was glad someone would be taking his attention away from me. Mr. Sher stepped over the threshold and closed the door behind him. I let out a deep breath to finally have some senses of privacy before the next appointment which is Lance.

My heart did a little flip flop at the thought of seeing him. I know I shouldn’t feel this way so soon after Jake had left me for another woman. I just can’t help it. A certain part of me had grown damp just thinking about seeing him that I had to shift in my chair.

I finished up the paperwork and tucked the papers in the filing cabinet then took my seat again when HE walked in. I smiled at him as he walked over and signed in.

He stood there looking down at me. “You look nice today,” he told me.

For some reason it sounded different from him than when Mr. Sher said it. “Thank you,” I told him. I looked down at the calendar on my desk and the list of appointments Mr. Krinner had for the day and the next day which was Friday. There weren’t any appointments and they were going to be closed.

“How about getting some drinks tonight after work,” Lance asked.

My heart began to pound and I looked up at him wondering if I had heard wrong but he was serious. I heard right.

“I’ll pick you up here and we can go to The Club.”

The Club was one of the most popular places in town. There is always a long line out the door and people would wait for hours just to get inside. I have never been inside the club. The club opens at six and I get off at five. I hope we wouldn’t have to wait too long to get inside and hopefully there isn’t a long line either. I really would love to go there.

Still not sure if he was serious or not so I said, “Sure. I get off at five.”

The door to Mr. Krinner’s office opened and Mr. Sher left and her boss waved Lance inside. Before Lanced walked away, he leaned in close and whispered, “I’ll see you later.”

Goosebumps cascaded down my entire body was the feel of his hot breath against my cheek. I wanted so to turn my head and kiss him right then and there in front of my boss but I held back. The office wasn’t the place to play the kind of games I wanted to play with a certain client. I’m sure the boss would stand there and watch like the pervert that he is.

The rest of the day past so slowly even lunch was slow and I kept glancing at the clock as the seconds ticked by every so slowly. So many times I just wanted to groan out loud for being so damn frustrated as the time just kept going by so slowly. There wasn’t even much work left for to do but sit there and wait for the last client to arrive.

Mr. Alfred Garcia. The man always seems to wait until the last minute to arrive for his appointment which he just walked in. “Afternoon, Mr. Garcia and Happy New Year,” I greeted the older man and he just returned the greeting with a smile.

“Mr. Krinner will be with you shortly,” I told him as he signed in. Most of the clients have been with the firm for several years and most clients just walk in and sign in then sit down. It was the same routine with them and I have to inform the newer clients about the process. I couldn’t help but notice Alfred looks a little upset about something and before I could ask Mr. Krinner stepped out and waved for the older man to enter his office.

Alfred was the last client and reached into a drawer and pulled out my purse and began to make myself a little more presentable for Lance for our date. I paused in applying the soft pink lipstick. Was this a date? I wondered. He was the one who asked me out but never said it was a date. I don’t want to make too much of something that isn’t what I want it to be. But what was it anyway. When I checked Lance’s initial application he was single. Even when I checked him out on my cell it was single and wasn’t exclusively seeing anyone so he’s fair game. He could have any woman on the planet but yet he asked me out to the club.

I finished getting ready and touching up my hair by the time Mr. Krinner was finished with the last appointment. “I’ll see you on Monday.” I told my boss then left my desk before he could say another word or ask me to stay late. I only took a few steps down the street toward my car when I heard someone calling out my name. I turned and my heart skipped a beat. It was Lance and he was waiting for me. He took me by the hand and guided me toward his car.
