Chapter 3 Stirring Up Trouble
As he stepped inside, he had barely found a stable seat when a voice rang in his ears, "Oh, who's this?" A woman approached him, her plump figure making it difficult for anyone in her vicinity to move comfortably. Behind her were friends and a young man who appeared to be about his age. While he was still contemplating, she continued, "Oh, I thought it was a stranger, but it turns out to be our useless son-in-law, huh?" She spoke with a mocking tone, paying no attention to his bewildered expression. "Who is she?" he asked. "Master, she's your wife," came the reply. "My wife?!" Hearing the system say so, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten a crucial detail. How could he forget something as important as this? He had a beautiful wife, and he was currently in his wife's house. "So, she's my wife, huh? It's been a while since I've seen her. Is she doing well?" Chad Devlin responded with a teasing tone, not only unrecognized but also replied to with insults. "Humph, of course, I'm doing very well, completely different from you. You're still the same useless person as ever. It's true that you have a father but no mother to teach you." "Say that to me again." Listening to such sarcasm and insults, he couldn't bear it any longer. She had insulted him to the point where he couldn't take it, and he realized he shouldn't mess with the family of his original host. After hearing his response, she involuntarily felt a hint of fear, and his gaze was no longer weak and timid as before but filled with fierceness. Isn't this the useless son-in-law of her family? How could someone like him have such a look in his eyes? "Oh, you're brave now, huh? Who gave you the courage to look at me like that?" She said, pointing at him. Her words were vulgar, and the insults reached their peak, resounding in his head. He understood why the original host could endure such torment and terrible insults from his wife's family. The original host was truly skilled at enduring. His determined gaze shifted past her and those standing beside her. "What are you, daring to challenge me like this? I didn't say anything wrong. You're nothing but a useless person, yet you dare to come out here and claim to be Amberlet family's son-in-law, embarrassing my family to this extent?" "That's right, not only are you useless, but even talking to you is nauseating. You reek of poverty and insignificance." "Such shamelessness. How dare you set foot here? Do you even know where you are? How dare you?" The woman's sarcastic remarks still hadn't ended when a man entered the scene. Each of them took turns speaking, but all the words were directed at him. The woman saw him remain silent and seemingly frightened. "Haha, Amber Celina married you to become part of the Amberlet family. But you need to know, your fortune comes solely from marrying my beautiful niece. Without the engagement vow of the Amberlet family, do you think Amber Celina would love you for who you are? Or are you just a fake parasite?" The man remained silent, offering no defense. When someone else spoke up, "Where are the guards? Please, protect us from this vile, poor wretch." Finally, the argument continued, and all the words created a tense atmosphere in this meeting. He spoke forcefully, waving his hand towards him. He shouted, demanding protection and not letting him go. Then, he added more insults, mentioning the parents of the master, the mother who had passed away. A strong emotion overwhelmed him, possibly the emotion of a master still undergoing hardship. Because his words made his lips unstable, he fell to the ground in surprise before he could grasp the situation. Before he could regain his composure, a blow struck the other side of his face. "Son... Robert, my son! How dare you, you... you dare treat your cousin like this? You're a disrespectful brat, fatherless and motherless." Indeed, the mother and son had gone beyond the limits, inciting and ridiculing him like this. He didn't understand why they couldn't remain silent; instead, they tried to inflict more harm. He didn't know how to deal with people like this. The crowd around her was growing even more crowded, and the stories they witnessed made it seem like both mother and son were performing a play. They understood that the commotion wasn't happening for no reason. "Everyone, take a good look," she said. "This is my son-in-law, who has been living in my daughter's house and even dares to rely on my granddaughter's affection. This has made him arrogant, regardless of what will happen. Now, when he steps outside, even his cousin gets involved. Think about it, isn't it a pity for my child?" She took advantage of the curiosity of those around her, pretending to be angry and attributing all the mistakes to him.
