Chapter 2

2 I sat paralyzed on the bed, replaying our life together. We met in high school and had been together for over a decade. I fell for Gwen the moment I saw her.

Back then, I was just a nerdy kid who focused on grades. Gwen was the star of the school―beautiful, bold, and everyone's dream girl. I kept my feelings hidden and pined for her for two years.

In college, I followed her to a mediocre school just to be near her. I wanted to be the person who could protect her. Fortunately, fate gave me a chance.

During a club outing at a bar, I saw a drunk cornering Gwen. She was screaming for help, but people just watched like it was a show. I rushed in to save her.

I took a beer bottle to the head for my trouble. Gwen stayed by my hospital bed for a month, and our relationship blossomed. I confessed my love, but she told me we could only be friends.

I didn't give up. I chased her with everything I had for a year until she finally agreed to date me. Three years later, pressured by her family, she married me.

Before the wedding, she warned me she was child-free. She said she'd never have kids and barely tolerated physical intimacy. I told myself she was just a slow burner.

I thought if she wouldn't take a step toward me, I'd take a hundred steps toward her. But two years ago, she started staying out late. She'd disappear for months claiming work trips.

She even started loathing our monthly intimacy. My friends joked that I should watch her closely so no other man would steal her. I just laughed it off.

I knew she had a high school flame she could never forget―Harrison. But he had moved abroad to be a trophy boyfriend for some rich woman. I trusted her completely.

But now, the signs were undeniable. I broke into a cold sweat and went to the bathroom to splash some water on my face. On the counter lay Gwen's discarded laundry.

It wasn't the lace she used to love. It looked like a nursing bra for breastfeeding mothers. When I flipped it over, I saw large milk stains.

My heart skipped a beat. I pulled out the locked storage box she kept in the corner. Perhaps she thought I was sound asleep because, for once, it wasn't locked.

I emptied the contents onto the floor. I knelt down to find postpartum recovery products, scar-removal cream, and several breast pumps. My suspicion was confirmed.

Teddy was Gwen's biological son. All those days she claimed to be traveling, she was actually in bed with another man.
