Chapter 1

1.

The night before my engagement party, my fiancé―A-list Hollywood star Chase Sterling―lost a dare on the reality show Extreme Challenge.

The penalty was to pretend to be a couple with his "best bro" Harper Wynn for 24 hours.

But in front of millions of viewers on a live feed, he got down on one knee and pulled out a vintage Tiffany ring.

The live comments exploded:

"OMG, are they for real?!"

"What about his fiancée then?"

"The way Chase looks at Harper... I ship them so hard."

"So Harper's the real girlfriend? This drama is too real."

Chase switched off the live stream and turned to me with his signature multi-million-dollar smile, the one he uses on the Jimmy Fallon show.

"Babe, it was just for the show. You know Harper and I have known each other since kindergarten at the Curtis School. She's like my sister."

But Harper snuggled into his arms, deliberately flashing the ring for the cameras that hadn't left yet, her eyes full of provocation.

"Chase's first on-screen kiss and first proposal were both with me. As his bride-to-be, don't you think you should offer some congratulations?"

Everyone there was part of their Brentwood circle, the one they'd all grown up in. They immediately started cheering.

"Come on, Nora. Harper won that way too easily. Chase definitely let her win," said Brad, a six-foot-five former UCLA basketball captain. "How about this, if Harper can beat me on the track, I'll give her my McLaren 720S."

The atmosphere ignited, with Dom Pérignon being sprayed everywhere.

I stepped out from the shadows, holding my Arai helmet.

Everyone froze, as if someone had hit pause.

I put on my helmet, my eyes meeting Chase's dismissive gaze through the visor.

"Why are you looking at me like that? You want drama for the show? Let me give you some."
