Chapter 3 You're Pregnant, Cailey
Cailey lowered her head and fixed her eyes on her black boots as she made a decision.
Across the desk, Connie's piercing gaze settled on Cailey, assessing her.
Cailey's presence was both delicate and graceful.
Connie had to acknowledge that Cailey could captivate any man with her beauty and charm.
"Ms. Patel," Connie said in a polite yet cold voice.
Previously, during Bobby's lifetime, Connie used to address her more familiarly as Cailey.
Now, the formality of her tone made her intentions unmistakably clear.
Rumors had been circulating among Leson's elite that Cailey was soon to be ousted from the Morris family, especially since she had borne no heirs for Bobby.
Connie had always held a certain disdain for women she deemed seductresses, like Cailey.
Feeling the weight of Connie's words, Cailey tensed, still clutching the handkerchief she had used to dry her tears.
Slowly, she raised her eyes, her tear-stained face meeting Connie's stern look.
Beside Connie, Laurence stood tall and imposing in a black suit, which accentuated his indifferent demeanor. His indifferent gaze was also fixed on Cailey.
"You're still young. Now that Bobby is gone, what are your plans for the future?" Connie asked, her voice firm and commanding.
It was clear that she wanted Cailey gone.
Tears streamed down Cailey's cheeks as she bit her lip. Her sorrow accentuated her beauty.
"Connie, I loved Bobby deeply. Even now, I can't bear to leave him," she responded through sobs.
Her voice trembled with seemingly sincere emotion.
From beside her, Michael's barely audible scoff cut through the air.
Unfazed, Cailey bit her lip harder as her sobs intensified.
Connie's expression hardened, her eyes flashing with contempt. "We've shown you nothing but kindness, but that's no excuse for you to cling to us now," she said sharply.
Cailey's eyes widened in shock, tears cascading faster as she shook her head vehemently. "No, Connie, I truly loved Bobby. I'm not..." Her voice broke, overwhelmed by emotion.
"Enough!" Connie's shout halted Cailey mid-sentence.
With a forceful slam of her hand on the table, Connie fixed Cailey with a piercing glare.
"You know exactly what you're after, and so do I," she continued, her voice icy as she dropped all pretenses. "You have until the end of the day to leave this villa. I won't let you claim any part of my family's wealth!"
Tears soaked Cailey's long lashes. Her face looked ghostly pale. She clutched her handkerchief tightly as her breath grew labored and her eyes reddened with distress.
"What trick are you trying to pull now?" Connie sneered.
Laurence sensed something was wrong, so he frowned and quickly closed the distance towards Cailey.
Suddenly, Cailey's breathing grew increasingly erratic, tears and sweat mingling on her face.
For the first time, a flicker of concern crossed Laurence's face. He hastened his steps, but before he could reach her, Cailey's body swayed and she began to collapse.
As darkness crept into her consciousness, she felt strong arms catch her. The next moment, she was leaning against the firm chest of a tall figure.
When Cailey regained consciousness, the luxurious chandelier of the master bedroom swam into her view. Weakly, she touched her forehead before trying to sit up.
"Cailey, you're finally awake!" a slightly anxious voice exclaimed.
As she turned towards the sound, Cailey saw the room was crowded.
Alongside the family doctor and a few maids, Connie, Laurence, and Michael were all present.
Laurence and Michael regaded her, feeling a mix of emotions. While Cailey blinked in confusion, Connie approached her with an unexpected warmth.
"How are you feeling, Cailey? Are you better?" she asked with a soft smile, taking Cailey's hand in hers.
"Connie, what's going on?" Cailey asked, still reeling from the shift in Connie's demeanor.
Connie's expression softened further as she gently stroked Cailey's hair. "Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant? I've been so worried," she said, her voice filled with concern.
Cailey's eyes widened in disbelief. "What did you say?" she asked, certain she had misheard.
"You're pregnant, Cailey." Connie repeated with a tender smile. "You're carrying Bobby's child."
