Chapter 1

On the eve of our wedding, I saw my supposedly mentally disabled girlfriend.

She was dropping stacks of cash at a luxury boutique, buying designer gifts for a male model.

Through the crowd, I heard her scoffing voice.

“That poor loser was just a toy for me. I’m ditching him on our wedding day anyway.”

“If I hadn't played dumb, he wouldn't even be able to breathe the same air as me.”

Four years of absolute devotion, and it was all just a sick game.

A cold chill washed over me, and I turned around to leave.

Standing in the crowd, I froze in my blue delivery courier jacket.

Shoppers brushed past me, but all the noise faded into nothing.

I could only feel the cold wetness on my face, unable to tell if it was sweat or tears.

Her friend gave her a disapproving look. “Yvette, are you serious?”

“He's been genuinely good to you for six whole years. Do you really have the heart to do this?”

Yvette Croft casually inspected her manicured nails, her tone dripping with disdain.

“You call that genuine? He just wanted an easy score because of my pretty face.”

“Even if I leave him at the altar, once that broke loser finds out I'm a wealthy heiress, he’ll cling to me like a leech.”

Yvette let out a mocking laugh. “It was just a bet to pass the time.”

“If I hadn't played dumb, did he really think he was good enough to touch me?”

“Was playing an idiot really that fun?” another woman giggled behind her hand.

“Fun? Absolutely. Right now, he's probably running extra delivery shifts just to buy me a fancy dinner.”

The group burst into loud laughter.

I stared at the stunning, radiant woman in the center of the crowd, who felt like a complete stranger.

I had come here today to surprise her.

After finishing my last delivery run, I finally saved up enough money to buy her a delicate diamond promise ring.

Even though I took her in as a helpless, confused girl off the streets, I wanted her to have everything other girls had.

I had arrived with a heart full of hope, only to witness this gut-wrenching scene.

The person I loved with all my heart had been lying to me the entire time.

I stumbled out of the mall.

The afternoon sun was blinding, yet everything before my eyes turned completely gray.
