Chapter 1

When my girlfriend and her first love were kidnapped alongside me, she chose to ransom me first.

After we left, her first love was stabbed to death by the captors.

She acted completely calm on the surface, even saying how glad she was that I survived.

On our wedding day, however, she dragged me down to the basement and shoved a blade into my stomach over and over again.

"Preston died because of you! What makes you think you deserve a happy life?"

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day of the kidnapping.

This time, I refused to let her ransom me. Instead, I turned to the masked female kidnapper.

"Hey beautiful, a handsome guy like me doesn't deserve to die, right?"

1.

When I came to, the kidnapper was laying down the terms for Audrey.

"Two million dollars only buys one of them."

Audrey glanced back and forth between me and Preston, both of us bound tightly to our chairs.

After hesitating for a long time, she finally pointed at me.

"Ransom him."

I spoke up immediately. "No, take Preston first."

Hearing that, Audrey did not hesitate for a second. "Fine. Ransom Preston first."

Once the kidnapper untied Preston and let him go, Audrey didn't even look back at me.

She merely threw out a parting promise before hurrying out the door.

"I'll come back for you."

In my previous life, she had indeed chosen me first.

Yet I knew the ugly truth. She only picked me because that two million dollars came from my bank account, and she felt obligated to.

The moment she escorted me to safety, she rushed right back. But Preston had already been butchered.

After Preston's funeral, she even held my hand and whispered, "Thank God I saved you first."

I genuinely believed she meant it.

It was only on our wedding day that she tore off her mask.

That was when I realized she never loved me at all. Her heart had always belonged to my stepbrother, Preston.
