Chapter 2

2

I had chosen this club on purpose. After the horrific way I died in my last life, I wanted to see her reality for myself.

To my surprise, she was clinging to Pierce's arm, looking like the cat that got the cream.

"Oh, look at you. You look miserable," she mocked. "Did he reject you already?"

"It makes sense. I'm the beauty, and I couldn't even get him to look at me. A plain girl like you never stood a chance. Elara, don't come crying to me when your heart breaks. My husband and I will be too busy being happy."

I looked past them at the group of models walking behind Pierce and smiled coldly.

It seemed she had learned something from the past. In the old life, if she saw Pierce with other women, she would have screamed and caused a scene.

"Sister, a word of advice," I said. "Make sure your husband gets regular checkups. All that 'extra-curricular' activity can lead to things that tears won't fix."

I reached out and looped my arm through Silas's. I gave her a bright, fake smile. "We're doing just fine."

"Liar! There's no way he'd want you!" Lyra shrieked.

I didn't blink. "Just because you couldn't handle him doesn't mean I can't."

But the next second, Silas pulled his arm away. He didn't say a word as he began to walk off.

Lyra erupted into hysterical laughter. "You almost had me fooled for a second there!"

Even Pierce joined in, his eyes roaming over me disgustingly. "Tell you what, if he doesn't want you, I wouldn't mind having a taste of the sister too."

I glared at him. "Sorry, I have high standards for hygiene."

His face twisted in rage. He grabbed a glass bottle from a nearby table and swung it toward my head.

I knew from my past life that he had a violent temper. He hated it when women defied him. Back then, he used to hit me in places where the clothes would hide the bruises.

All those photos of us being a 'power couple' were nothing but a lie.

The bottle shattered against my temple. Warm blood immediately began to trickle down my face.

Lyra didn't hesitate. She stepped forward and slapped me hard across the cheek.

"How dare you talk to my husband like that! You're just jealous!"

She raised her hand to strike me again.

Suddenly, a long leg flashed through the air. Silas kicked Pierce right in the gut, sending him flying backward into a heap of trash.

I slowly lowered the heavy glass ashtray I had been gripping.

Silas marched over to me, his eyes burning with ice. "I thought you were smart. Turns out you're just as pathetic as Lyra. You let them hit you and you don't even fight back?"

I let my eyes well up with tears. As my legs gave out, I leaned into his chest.

He tried to push me away at first, but Pierce was already scrambling up, brandishing a broken bottle.

A group of security guards suddenly swarmed in, pinning Pierce to the floor.

Silas looked down at him with pure disdain. "I don't take a dime from the Thorne estate, but this club is on my family's land. You want to touch me? You're not even close to my level."

He leaned down and swept me up into his arms.

Lyra's eyes went wide. She started screaming like a banshee. "Silas! Why are you holding her? Put her down!"

I gave her a small, triumphant look. Then, I rested my head against Silas's firm chest and let him carry me out.
