Chapter 2

Chapter 2

"Nora, say something!"

A sharp sting on my arm snapped me out of my thoughts. Sienna pinched me hard with her long acrylic nails, leaving deep red marks.

Suppressing the urge to slap her across the face, I forced a tight smile.

"Of course. You struck out all those other times, so maybe this one really is your prince."

Sienna looked at me with slight surprise. Usually, I would immediately lecture her and stop her from dragging strangers inside.

"Nora, you work in healthcare. These red rashes on his body... they aren't contagious, right?"

She hesitated, keeping her distance.

I sneered internally. So she wasn't completely brainless after all.

In our past life, she had fought me when I tried to pull her away. Now that I encouraged her, she became paranoid.

I gave her a reassuring, completely sincere look.

"It is probably just an allergic reaction. Even if it is a mild bug, isn't becoming a billionaire's wife worth taking a small risk?"

"Then help me carry him inside. He is way too heavy for me."

My words seemed to ease her doubts. She grabbed my arm, her sharp nails digging into my skin again.

I ripped my arm away from her grip.

"What is your problem?"

Sienna stared at me, sensing my sudden hostility.

I forced another fake smile.

"Nothing. I just remembered I have a night shift at the hospital. You should haul him in yourself so nobody steals your spotlight as his savior."

I turned to leave, then paused and added one more thing.

"Our department is extremely short-staffed lately, so I will be staying in the hospital dorms for a while."

There was no way in hell I was sharing an apartment with an active syphilis carrier. Moving out was the best choice.

Before I could take two steps, Sienna blocked my path.

"If you leave, who is going to cook and do my laundry? Don't be so selfish! Is making money more important than taking care of your sister?"

I froze, disgusted by how shamelessly entitled she sounded.

I had raised Sienna for over a decade like an oversized toddler. She didn't know how to cook, clean, or budget, and relied entirely on my linked credit card for daily expenses.

Our parents died when we were children, and our grandparents refused to take in two young girls.

We grew up alone in our parents' old apartment. Being three years older, I balanced my studies while taking care of everything.

We lived off our parents' modest life insurance payout until it ran out when I reached my senior year of college.

While I juggled multiple part-time jobs and grueling nursing shifts, Sienna barely made it into a local community college and racked up massive payday loans trying to compete with rich kids.

I thought she was just traumatized from losing our parents, so I babied her and paid off all her debts.

I never realized I was nurturing a venomous snake.

Looking at her demanding face, pure rage flared up inside me. I slapped her hand away.

"You are in your twenties, Sienna! Do you really expect me to serve you like a maid for the rest of your life? If I didn't work, who paid off your debts? Who pays for your clothes, your food, and your roof?"
