Chapter 2
2
Since that day, Lulu's condition supposedly got worse.
Caleb stayed by her hospital bed day and night, caring for her.
He used all his connections to bring in top specialists.
But bone marrow transplantation remained the only viable solution.
And I was the perfect match, the most suitable donor for Lulu.
Caleb had no choice but to come and beg me again.
However, every time he showed up, I either locked the door or sent him packing with my cold attitude.
Meanwhile, my father had already finalized the wedding details with Elder Mr. Grant.
While I was busy preparing for the big day, Caleb appeared before me once more.
He must have sensed that something was wrong, so he tried to play nice.
"Lyra, today is our fifth anniversary. Didn't we agree to have a yacht party to celebrate?"
"I've prepared everything exactly how you like it. Let me take you there, okay?"
I gave him a cold smirk. "The moment you gave my heirloom to Lulu, we were over."
"That was my grandmother's legacy. You had no right to disrespect it. If it's not back at the Yates estate in two days, I'm going to the Elder Mr. Grant."
The yacht party was something I had begged him for last month.
It was supposed to be our anniversary celebration.
But now, I wanted nothing to do with him, and I knew he didn't really want to celebrate either.
Caleb thought I was just throwing a tantrum. He suddenly grabbed my arm. "Stop being so stubborn. The party is already set. You're coming."
His face looked panicked and frantic.
A bad feeling suddenly surged in my chest.
I struggled with all my might. "Caleb, let go of me!"
He ignored me, dragging me from the side door toward the road.
He forced me into a black Bentley and sped off toward the docks.
The massive yacht was lit up brilliantly, but it only made me feel a chill in my bones.
The deck was covered in flowers and balloons, and a band was playing.
Socialites and wealthy heirs watched us as Caleb dragged me onto the ship.
I wrenched my hand free and glared at him. "What the hell are you doing?"
Caleb frowned, his voice dropping into a manipulative soothe. "Lyra, I planned this whole party as a surprise for you."
He paused, then continued.
"But Lulu's condition can't wait. I've brought the best medical team. They're in the medical bay below deck right now."
"I promise, as soon as the procedure is over, I'll propose to you in front of everyone. Isn't that the dream wedding you always wanted?"
My eyes widened in disbelief.
"So this is your big surprise?"
"Your grand proposal involves stealing my bone marrow in front of a crowd?"
"Caleb, you really are a calculating piece of work!"
Caleb's face darkened. "I'm doing this to save your reputation."
"I don't want people thinking you're a selfish, jealous woman who would let someone die."
"If something happens to Lulu because of you, can you really live with that guilt?"
I said coldly, "I don't care what you say. I'm not doing it. You can't force me."
Caleb gave a sinister smile and stepped closer.
"It doesn't matter if you agree or not. I've arranged everything. I'll make it look like you fell overboard."
"Then I'll pull you out secretly and perform the transplant while you're unconscious. No one will ever know."
Just then, Lulu walked over, leaning weakly against Caleb. She gave me a look of pure provocation.
"Lyra, Caleb has worked so hard for me. Please don't be so cruel to him."
Before I could speak, a dull roar erupted from the bottom of the yacht.
The ship began to tilt violently. Glassware shattered on the tables, and people started screaming in terror.
I stumbled and barely caught the railing.
Lulu lost her balance as well. Her eyes went wide with fear as she slid toward the edge of the deck.
Seeing that no one was looking, Caleb gave me a hard, deliberate shove.
Then he lunged toward Lulu, catching her arm and pulling her into his chest.
The deck beneath me began to crack under the violent shaking. I screamed Caleb's name.
But he just looked at me coldly. He leaned down and kissed Lulu's forehead right in front of me.
I fell into the freezing, pitch-black ocean along with the broken pieces of the deck.
Seawater rushed into my nose and mouth. I struggled, looking up at the yacht.
I saw Caleb holding Lulu tight, his eyes filled with mockery as he watched me sink.
Then, he started screaming my name at the top of his lungs, acting like a frantic lover.
He ordered the crew to search, but he was clearly just stalling for time.
The party had turned into a chaotic nightmare.
The icy water wrapped around me. My hatred burned hotter than the cold.
Why did I get a second chance just to be killed by him again?
I refused to accept this.
