Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Julian didn't believe it for a second. In his mind, I loved him to the bone―a woman who would sacrifice everything for him could never love someone else.
But when he followed me downstairs and saw the unmistakable Rolls-Royce parked at the curb, he couldn't stop himself from gasping:
"This... this is impossible!"
I rolled my eyes:
"So unrefined."
Amidst the shocked stares of the crowd, I hopped into the passenger seat and sped away.
Julian's face turned a shade of sickly grey.
Serenity sighed:
"Naomi is really something. Even if she wants to make you jealous, she shouldn't spend so much money hiring an actor! And renting a car like that must cost a fortune―she's so thoughtless about how hard you work for your money…"
Julian found the excuse he needed. He nodded and sighed helplessly:
"She's always been vain. That's why I've been so unhappy with her. Whatever, a husband should be tolerant of his wife. After all, we're getting married soon."
But once he finished his speech, the guests didn't fawn over him like they usually did.
They each found an excuse to leave.
After all, a man who abandons his longtime partner to flaunt his mistress is hard to respect.
I was packing my things at home when he kicked the door open, reeking of alcohol:
"Naomi! What the hell do you think you're doing!"
The sudden noise startled me. I turned around and glared at him:
"Are you crazy? Why are you suddenly back? Shouldn't you be staying at Serenity's place tonight?"
Ever since his friend died, he'd used the excuse of taking care of the widow to move in over there.
He hadn't come back for weeks. If he was here now, it definitely wasn't for anything good.
He punched the wall:
"Back to catch you on a date with your little lover, that's why! Tell me! Who was that who dropped you off today? Where did you find that actor!"
I scoffed coldly:
"Is something wrong with your ears? I told you, that's my boyfriend. Can you not understand simple English?"
Julian paused, his eyes darting around:
"You think I can't see through your little game? You're just mad that I've been distant lately, so you're trying to embarrass me at the reunion, right?"
"Serenity saw through your little mind games already. Stop the act!"
I laughed, genuinely amused:
"You two are both psychos."
Seeing me ignore him, his frustration boiled over. He stormed up to me:
"Naomi, can you have a little sympathy? Serenity went through a tragedy! She only has me to rely on. If I abandon her, how is she supposed to survive?"
I stopped packing and looked him straight in the eye:
"And what about my feelings? Have you considered how it feels to have you parade her around in public over and over again?"
He was momentarily stunned by my question, then turned his head away uncomfortably:
"You're just being unreasonable. It's not like I'm not still marrying you..."
What was inside this man's head?
He was so shameless, yet he still expected me to walk down the aisle with him. I decided not to say another word.
I held out my hand:
"Give me the house keys."
He frowned:
"Don't you have your own?"
I slapped the property deed onto the table:
"Open your eyes and look closely. My parents bought this house. We're breaking up, so why are you still lurking here?"
Julian's temper flared. He threw the keys onto the floor:
"I knew your family never respected me! Let me tell you, Naomi, don't play these games with me. It won't be long before you're begging me to come back!"
I picked up the keys and pointed to the door:
"Get out. Now. Or I'm calling the cops."
He turned red with rage and slammed the door so hard the house shook.
