That night, I didn't bother waiting up for Beckett and just washed up and went to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up to slightly messy sheets beside me and a text on my phone.

"Baby, I left a file at home. Could you bring it to the office when you wake up?"

I read the message with a blank expression and typed a quick reply.

After getting ready, I grabbed the document he needed and headed out.

Although I rarely showed my face at Beckett's company, the senior employees all knew who I was.

No one dared to stop me from going in.

I took the elevator straight up to Beckett's floor with the file in my arms.

As soon as the doors opened, I saw a group of employees gossiping around a young woman.

I had heard rumors about Beckett's new favorite toy, but I had never actually seen her.

Now that we finally crossed paths, I realized her face was sickeningly familiar.

This girl looked more like my twenty-year-old self than I did.

"Summer Blake, didn't you say your boyfriend is super rich? Why is he making you work here?"

"Yeah, shouldn't you be paying taxes on all that bragging?"

"Who's bragging?! Everything I'm wearing was bought by my boyfriend."

"This watch alone cost two hundred thousand dollars! You guys just don't get how much he spoils me."

Summer couldn't keep her cool, pouting as she argued with them.

They just mocked her, claiming she was covered in knockoffs.

The naive girl still had that fresh-out-of-college innocence on her face.

After calming myself down, I took a closer look at her outfit and realized it was indeed all designer.

Beckett was really willing to spend big money on her and even kept her around the office.

He must really be into her.

My eyes stung with unshed tears.

I was just about to hand the file to a random employee when I heard a loud gasp from the crowd.

To prove herself, Summer smugly pulled out the amulet hanging around her neck for everyone to see.

"See this?! This is an authentic Serenity Amulet. It can't be faked!"

"My boyfriend personally climbed all the way up there yesterday to get it for me. He said I can have whatever I want as long as it makes me happy."

Seeing the pendant around her neck, I felt all the blood in my body freeze.

It had the exact same texture and the exact same material.

Just like Beckett's love, it had been split into two identical pieces and given to different people.

The coworkers who had been doubting her were now looking at each other in shock.

"He just gave you such an expensive gift? In all my years here, Mr. Wright is the only person I've seen be that generous."

"I didn't think there was a second man in the world as devoted as Mr. Wright. I'm so jealous..."

"Hey, Summer, since your boyfriend is so successful, when are you going to introduce him to us?"

I didn't stick around to hear the rest of their conversation.

I hastily shoved the file into the nearest person's hands and bolted from the office.

That place, and the people in it, made me sick to my stomach.

Every extra second there felt like pure torture.
