When I woke up the next morning, it was already ten o'clock.

Surprisingly, Kellan, who usually left before dawn, was still lounging in bed messing with a camera.

"What are you looking at?" I leaned over to peek.

The screen displayed a crystal-clear photo of me drooling all over his chest while dead asleep.

I scowled and rolled away immediately.

Kellan chuckled, "Just gathering evidence so you can't deny it later."

With a swift tug, he pulled me right back against him and planted a firm kiss on my lips.

Damn him and his intoxicating cedar-scented cologne.

"By the way, Vivienne arrives tomorrow. You're coming with me to pick her up at the airport."

My heart skipped a guilty beat.

Usually, Kellan and Ezra operated on unpredictable schedules, making it nearly impossible to slip away undetected.

Their joint airport trip was the golden window Josie and I had been waiting for.

I put on my best innocent face, "Tomorrow? Oh no, I promised to take a friend to the clinic."

Kellan raised an eyebrow.

Before he could interrogate me, I fired off excuses like a machine gun, "It's a girl, an old coworker! She's totally alone in the city and has no one else to help her."

Kellan was violently possessive toward any male in my orbit, but he gave me slack when it came to female friends.

He paused for a second, "Fine. Come straight home afterward and be careful."

"Also... the flu has been going around. Keep your mask on at the hospital and don't take it off."

Well.

If it weren't for the fact that I was just a stand-in for his first love, Kellan was actually decent sometimes.
