Chapter 2
2
The deafening sound of rain covered everything.
I didn't hear what Sienna shouted behind my back, but it didn't matter.
She didn't seem to have any intention of chasing after me anyway.
I couldn't get a cab on the street, so I had to walk through the heavy storm.
It took me nearly forty minutes to reach Mason Hayes's house.
Seeing me soaked to the bone, he quickly pulled me inside to change into some dry clothes.
While he was busy making me a hot ginger tea, his mouth never stopped running.
"What, you got into a fight with your big director wife again? How many days are you planning to give her the silent treatment this time?"
"It won't even take half an hour before she calls you and you go running right back."
I put down the teacup and hid the moisture in my eyes.
"No, I am divorcing her."
Hearing this, the smile on Mason's face froze, and his body trembled slightly.
For so many years, Sienna and I had countless fights, big and small.
But without exception, I was always the one to bow my head and yield.
No matter how angry I was, I had never mentioned the word "divorce."
Mason saw that I wasn't joking, frowned, sat next to me, and put his hand on my shoulder.
"Seth Carter, are you serious?"
I nodded gently.
In the past, I was the core member of the tech department in my company.
While Sienna was just an unknown scriptwriter.
She stayed at home every day, forgetting to eat or sleep as she revised her scripts.
I was worried she would ruin her health, so I woke up two hours early every day to prepare her meals.
And I always reminded her to eat on time.
That was until one of Sienna's scripts caught the eye of a famous production company, earning her a massive payday of millions.
After tasting success, she transitioned from a writer to a director.
She directed several works in a row, all of which received unanimous praise from both the industry and the public.
From then on, she reached the peak of her life.
Sienna complained that when I came home late from overtime, the noise disturbed her rest.
So she demanded I quit my job.
"Seth, you only make a few dozen thousand a year, which isn't even as much as the budget of one of my low-cost movies."
"Just stay at home from now on, I can handle the money-making part."
Her casual tone made it sound like everything I had done for this family in the past.
Had absolutely zero value.
She seemed to completely forget the times she was rejected over and over again.
When her hard work was trashed as garbage by others.
I was the one unconditionally supporting her dreams behind her back.
Thinking about it now, Sienna treated both her career and our marriage.
With a cold attitude of weighing the pros and cons.
To be honest, she was a person selfish to her very core.
Before I left Mason's house, he offered to help me apply for my old job at the company.
I agreed without hesitation.
How many seven years does a person have in their life to stay so blindly obsessed.
The only thing I would be wasting was my own time.
